Chris Johnson takes snaps at wide receiver

by Tom Woods | Fri, Jul 25th 9:20am EDT

The Jets turned a few heads on Thursday, as they gave running back free agent acquisition Chris Johnson some snaps as a receiver. Wide receiver David Nelson said having Johnson running pass patterns will open things up for other receivers. With Johnson's speed, defenses will have to pay attention to him. (New York Post)

Fantasy Impact:

This is probably something that isn't worth reading a whole lot into. The likelihood is that Johnson may be used as a WR on gadget plays, and will not feature regularly at the position. If he sees significant playing time on the field as a receiver, then he may be used primarily as a decoy so that the quarterback can get the ball to someone else. However, this may mean that the Jets feel comfortable with Johnson catching the ball, as well as running it. CJ2K featured frequently in the passing game when he was a Tennessee Titan, recording no less than 36 catches each season. This news could see Johnson's stock shoot up in PPR leagues, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses as a receiving talent throughout training camp.
