Helu has the edge as Redskins' 3rd down RB

by Patrick Johnson | Thu, Jul 31st 5:28pm EDT

Rookie Lache Seastrunk and second-year RB Chris Thompson are struggling in pass protection early in camp. Though lacking the explosive burst those young RBs possess, Roy Helu's experience and proven pass blocking skills have him in the driver's seat as the 3rd down back to own in D.C. (Washington Post)

Fantasy Impact:

Head Coach Jay Gruden utilized a two-RB approach in Cincinnati last year. Then rookie Gio Bernard racked up 226 touches (56 of those through the air) as the change of pace back for the Bengals. While Helu won't get that amount of volume, he remains one of the overlooked gems in the draft (especially PPR leagues). If Helu wins the job, he'll produce RB3/flex stats while only costing the price of a 13th/14th rounder.
