Gore rests in preseason debut

by Andrew Cantor-Wagner | Sat, Aug 9th 11:55am EDT

The 49ers lost their first game of the preseason 23-3 to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. Part of the loss could be attributed to the poor play of the backup QB's, as well as the team resting several starters, including starting running back Frank Gore. (NFL.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Gore's lack of action Thursday can be attributed to the team wanting to rest the 31 year old veteran, as well getting a better look at their options behind him. One of those options, Carlos Hyde, shined in limited work, going for 39 yards on 5 rushes, with a long of 19yds. While Gore's status for 2014 shouldn't be in danger, Hyde's progress is one to watch as we expect him to be a prime candidate to steal carries and possibly platoon with Gore in the regular season.
