Aaron Dobson shines in preseason finale

by John Aubin | Fri, Aug 29th 12:08am EDT

Tonight was Aaron Dobson's first game action of the preseason, and he delivered exactly what the Patriots need: a big-bodied, physical receiver who can stretch the defense vertically. Dobson did not appear to have any issues pushing off his previously injured left foot, and finished with three catches for 57 yards with a 33-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. The touchdown catch was spectacular, with Dobson getting away from a hold by the receiver while making a leaping, falling reception into the end zone. It wasn't a perfect outing for Dobson, but no one expected it to be. He looked a little rusty while running an in-breaking route on an incomplete pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at 7:58 in the first quarter, but tonight was a great first step for Dobson. Fantasy Impact:

The biggest question about Aaron Dobson this preseason was his health. Dobson alleviated those fears tonight with a strong game. The Patriots need him in the lineup for his playmaking abilities and he should see a fair amount of targets as the team uses him to stretch the field. If you are looking for a late round flyer on a wide receiver with upside, Dobson is worth a look.
