Rudolph salvages quiet day with a touchdown grab

by Kevin C. Wilson | Mon, Sep 8th 1:01am EDT

Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph hauled in a 5-yard touchdown catch on Sunday, but did little else in the season opening victory against the St. Louis Rams. Rudolph was targeted only four times and converted those looks into just two catches for 16 yards.

Fantasy Impact:

Without the short touchdown catch, Rudolph would have been a major disappointment for fantasy owners on Sunday. The former All-Pro was expected to play an important role in Norv Tuner's new offense, but Rudolph appeared to be somewhat of an after thought in the Vikings' passing attack in Week 1. However he was definitely the first option on his touchdown catch as Matt Cassel found his talented tight end wide-open in the end zone after executing a play-action fake. Because of his size and sure-hands, Rudolph should remain a top option in the red zone for the Vikings this season and that alone makes him a legitimate TE1.
