Riley Cooper not expected to sign with Buccaneers after tryout

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not expected to sign former Eagles WR Riley Cooper after a three-day tryout with the team during rookie minicamp, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times on Twitter.

Fantasy Impact

It is fair to wonder whether this might be the end for Riley Cooper. Cooper was a decent wide receiver during his time in Philadelphia, but he quickly fell out of favor after a video surfaced of him using racial slurs while at a concert. It seems that no NFL team wants to weather that kind of baggage in order to employ an average-to-below-average wide receiver, as the Buccaneers are one of the few teams to show interest in the last two years.

Eagles release WR Riley Cooper

The Philadelphia Eagles have released WR Riley Cooper. Cooper was entering year three of a five year, $22.5M contract that was signed back in 2014. He had 21 catches for 327 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Fantasy Impact

Cooper's distraction of his remarks a few years ago was a heavier weight than his contributions to the team, not to mention his outrageous $4.5M cap number next season. This is undoubtedly the first of a line of moves for the Eagles in rebuilding from the "Philadelphia Headache" Chip Kelly.

Riley Cooper misses another practice

Eagles' receiver Riley Cooper missed his second straight practice due to a knee contusion he suffered against the Giants on Monday night.

Fantasy Impact

Cooper was able to return from the injury on Monday, finishing the game with three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. However, his continued absence from practice is not a good sign for his prospects of playing this week. With Nelson Agholor also out, the Eagles may turn to Miles Austin and Josh Huff for additional snaps against Carolina on Sunday.

Riley Cooper finds pay dirt

Riley Cooper caught three passes on six targets for a team-high 76 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 27-7 win over the Giants on Monday night.

Fantasy Impact

With fellow wideout Nelson Agholor sitting due to a hamstring injury, Cooper sparked the Eagles offense when he out-jumped two defenders for a 32-yard touchdown pass from Sam Bradford that tied the score at 7-7- late in the first quarter. Cooper's three catches tied a season-high, while his 76 receiving yards marked a season-high as he also came down with a 43-yard grab on the opening drive on the second half. However, one of Bradford's three interceptions was targeted for Cooper, who broke off a deep route on a clear miscommunication with the QB. Quietly, Cooper has hauled in two touchdowns over his last three games after totaling only three catches over the first three games. Still, he won't be a recommended fantasy play next week when the Eagles take on Carolina.

Three catches for Riley Cooper

Riley Cooper posted three catches for 32 yards in the Eagles win over the Saints on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

Cooper was targeted eight times, tied for most on the night. He was the target for one of Sam Bradford's redzone interceptions. Through four games, Cooper has just eight catches. He's off the fantasy radar.
