Rudolph has successful surgery

by Scott Lotzer | Tue, Sep 30th 2:05am EDT

Kyle Rudolph is expected to miss at least 5 more weeks after having surgery to repair a sports hernia on both sides of his abdomen. "I actually got both sides fixed while I was there," Rudolph said. "It was something we thought we could manage. With these injuries, you know they're progressively going to get worse, but we tried everything we could to kind of make it week-by-week, and it got to the point where every Monday we were starting over again. Just get it fixed now so in November, December, January, I'm playing at a high level." The Vikings elected to hold his roster spot as opposed to adding him to the IR - Designated to Return list. The IR-DTR list requires a player to be inactive for 8 weeks. The Vikings believe he can return to action sooner than that. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

The safe bet is that Rudolph returns after the Vikings Week 10 bye when they face Chicago in Week 11. Word to the wise: Greg Jennings had a similar injury last season and never quite regained his speed afterward. Rudolph is certainly a TE2 when he returns to the lineup, but expectations need to be kept low until he proves otherwise. Make sure to watch his progress and look out for any changes or setbacks for his return timetable.
