Murray named NFC Offensive Player of the Month

by Chris Zolli | Thu, Oct 2nd 5:10pm EDT

Murray is the first Cowboy to win Offense Player of the Month since Tony Romo in November 2009 and first running back from the Cowboys since Emmitt Smith in September 1995. (Dallas Morning News)

Fantasy Impact:

When Emmitt Smith won the Offensive Player of the Month during the 1995 season, he ended up with 2148 yards from scrimmage and 25 touchdowns for the season; the Cowboys would love that production from Murray this year. Smith had a pace that was a bit better than what Murray has done so far but Murray has had that type of effect on the 3-1 Cowboys and fantasy owners. Look for Murray to continue his pace of 100 rushing games, as the Texans are 24th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed with 130 per game and have allowed nearly 5 yards per carry. For a running back like Murray that averages 5.5 yards per carry for his career, a big day on Sunday is very possible.
