Packers to maintain split in backfield, keep both backs 'fresh'

by Eric Anderson | Fri, Oct 10th 10:06am EDT

In the Packers best rushing game of the season, Eddie Lacy led the charge and James Starks contributed for spells throughout. It may be surprising to learn that the split was exactly 50/50, with each back playing 27 offensive snaps. Packers Running Backs Coach Sam Gash has said he wants to keep both back fresh throughout the game and expects them to continue splitting carries in the future. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Fantasy Impact:

Lacy owners would love to hear that after his breakout game against the Vikings he would get a much bigger workload in Week 6. That's not the case. Though Lacy was incredibly efficient and effective against a struggling Vikings defense, he'll have a much harder test against Miami--in terms of talent and temperature. It bears monitoring how the Packers manage this game, but it seems likely that any type of split would favor Lacy with a heavier workload. The Packers will need to run the ball well to manage the clock against the Dolphins, Lacy and/or Starks is sure to be a big part of that.
