Robert Griffin III return could open up offense

by Scott Ellinwood | Sat, Nov 1st 5:46pm EDT

Redskins coaches are hoping that when Robert Griffin III returns to the starting lineup on Sunday that it will force changes in the way defenses approach the Redskins offense. While backups Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy were both able to run, neither possesses the dangerous speed and agility that Griffin has. Griffin's presence alone could open up the run game for Alfred Morris and the deep play action opportunities for DeSean Jackson. “[Griffin] obviously opens things in the running game where he’s an additional threat and the defense has to account for,” offensive coordinator Sean McVay said, “and some of the off-scheduled plays, so it opens things up, definitely.” (Washington Post)

Fantasy Impact:

Lots of optimism upon RG3's return, but let's remember that there was similar hype to open the season. Until RG3 can string together several performances that resemble his 2012 play, fantasy owners must weigh the boom or bust nature of starting such an explosive but inconsistent player.
