Drew Brees is overly optimistic

Fantasy Impact:

Brees has had a down year this year and there is reason for fantasy owners to also be agitated. He has his lowest yards per game and yards per attempt since 2010 and his lowest touchdown percentage since 2007; he is still on pace for over 5000 yards, but he is more of a top-seven to ten quarterback this year, not the top-three quarterback that was drafted. In leagues where there are points per completion, Brees will always have a substantial value, but he has yet to be a top option at QB this year and may not be worthy of a big move if you have a need for a top QB. The Bengals' pass defense is 20th in the league, so Brees does have an opportunity to be a top QB this week, but he is beneath the tier that includes Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, and Tom Brady this season.
