HC Jay Gruden takes a step back on his RG3 criticism

On Wednesday, Redskins' head coach Jay Gruden took blame for being too candid in his criticism on QB Robert Griffin III and said it allowed the team to become "too much about one guy." On the Monday after the team's loss to Tamp Bay, Gruden publicly said that Griffin was "not even close to being good enough." Gruden also commented that "[Griffin's] footwork was below average," and also said that "[Griffin] took three-step drops when he should have taken five. He took a one-step drop when he should have taken three, on a couple occasions, and that can’t happen. He stepped up when he didn't have to step up and stepped into pressure. He read the wrong side of the field a couple times.” (Associated Press)

Fantasy Impact:

Ouch! That certainly doesn't do any good for your young QB's confidence. Even though Gruden downplayed his comments, it still reflects exactly how Gruden views Griffin and paints an accurate picture on just how much RG3 has regressed since his electric rookie campaign. This spells trouble for the Redskins and indicates that there could be some tension built up in the locker room. Either way, none of this does any favors for putting a positive spin on RG3's fantasy outlook or even his future with the team. RG3 remains a low-end QB2 until he can get his groove back, if he ever does.
