Raiders will be $69.5 million under the cap

Tyson Branch was cut two days ago. Today Lamarr Woodley was cut and MJD announced his retirement. When Matt Schaub is off the ledger, GM McKenzie will have placed the Raiders $69.5 million under the cap and as a major player in this free agency period. (Vic Tafur on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

The Raiders have to spend in free agency as mandated by league rules. The biggest prize is Ndamukong Suh, who will command a huge salary but one that the Raiders could afford. Another interesting name being floated about is Randall Cobb, who McKenzie is intimately familiar with as he drafted him while in Green Bay. Will Julius Thomas be a Raider? The plan that McKenzie instituted in 2012 is beginning to come to fruition. All those years of restructuring and purging dead money has brought financial flexibility to make an impact. If he can continue to draft well and spend the money on impact players, the resurgence of the Raiders could be right around the corner.
