Matt Jones: "I will compete with anybody who's in front of me."

When talking to the media about whether he would accept backing up Alfred Morris, Matt Jones said, "We will compete." He later commented, "I will compete with anybody who's in front of me." (Washington Times)

Fantasy Impact:

Alfred Morris is the starting back without a doubt, but Matt Jones will not accept anything less than being an NFL starter it seems. Jones is the most versatile running back the Redskins have had since Clinton Portis. His 6-foot-2, 231-pound frame is ideal for tough, smashmouth football, but he can also be a threat in the receiving game too. He also has a chip on his shoulder after rushing for just 817 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games at Florida since he was heavily rotated in and out. He has something to prove, but his selection doesn't necessarily mean that Alfred Morris will have a reduced role at all. Morris has more rushing yards over the last three years than any other running back. However, Jones is bigger than Morris, and he's likely more agile, a better receiver and a better pass blocker than Morris also. Regardless, the only chance Jones has at significant playing time this season is dependent upon whether Jones can run the ball well. That remains to be seen, so for the moment Morris is locked in as a RB2 until further notice. Jones is only worth drafting as a Morris handcuff if he can win the third-down back job.
