Martellus Bennett

Bennett a no show at Bears' first OTA

by Michael Vincent | Wed, May 27th 8:19pm EDT

Jeff Dickerson reports that TE Martellus Bennett was not present during the first day of OTAs for the Chicago Bears. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported in April that Bennett would not report to any team without a new contract. Bennett has two years left on his existing deal. (Jeff Dickerson, ESPN Chicago)

Fantasy Impact:

Bennett is no stranger to offseason drama and extra attention since joining the Bears in 2013. Coming off a career year in 2014 where he caught 90 catches for 900+ yards and 6 touchdowns, one will assume he will report to camp or be ready for the 2015 season eventually. If not, there is no real clear cut second option at TE for the Bears, who have invited 10 tight ends to camp. If Bennett is traded or holds out, look for Dante Rosario to take over No. 1 TE duties. However, unless Rosario emerges as a viable threat in now his eighth season (only 34 catches, 341 yards and 3 TD since 2011), fantasy owners would be smart to look elsewhere other than Chicago for TE help.
