Gase: Backup QB Jimmy Clausen is 'perfect' for Chicago Bears offense

by Michael Vincent | Tue, Jun 16th 8:35pm EDT

The new Bears regime feels confident about quarterback Jay Cutler moving forward but cannot help but realize the potential in their backup, Jimmy Clausen. “I feel like from what we saw on tape last year — and I know it was limited, I know what we saw on tape was limited — but he’s really grown as a player,” Gase said in May. “And what we’re trying to put together right now, he was a great fit for that room. He and Jay have a great relationship. I felt like he’d be perfect for what we were trying to do offensively.” (Blair Sheade)

Fantasy Impact:

If there is an ounce of quarterback controversy here, any hope that Jay Cutler's has any legitimate fantasy value is out the window. Cutler's contract and 'potential' are going to make him the front runner and give him the longer leash, but if there are enough struggles early in the season or if the Bears are simply not impressed with Cutler, there could be a change under center in 2015.
