Jonas Gray hopes for clean slate as he competes for a roster spot in 2015

In an interview with Boston Herald Radio, Jonas Gray talked about putting last season's discipline woes behind him and moving forward. Gray said, " “It was a learning experience. I learned a lot. And I think anytime you go through an entire NFL season, especially when you’re in the Super Bowl, you get a lot of experience in terms of how to act as a professional, how to play in late-game situations, and how to play week to week. So, it was a learning experience, and the one thing you have to do to make sure you’re a better pro about it is to make sure it never happens again.” Regarding training camp and the competition at running back, Gray spoke candidly, stating that “at every position there’s a competition. I don’t really look at it as running backs versus running backs; I think that everybody is competing with themselves. Bill does a good job of letting the guys know you can only be as good as you want to be, and if you want to make the team, you want to carve a role (Oliver Thomas)

Fantasy Impact:

Gray is notorious for his up and down season with the Patriots in 2014. On one end, he made the Sports Illustrated cover after his 37 carry, 201 yard, 4 touchdown performance on Sunday Night Football against Indianapolis. On the other end, he was benched and inactive twice in the last half of the season for oversleeping and missing team functions. He only carried the ball 20 more times during the regular season and saw only four carries in the playoffs. He was benched in the Super Bowl as LeGarrette Blount and Shane Vereen handled the backfield duties. Gray has a high upside, as we have seen, but things are done a certain way in New England, and if he is not in line, he will not see the field. Bill Belichick will not shy away from doing what's best for the team. Gray currently ranks as the 74th rated running back, 209th overall. He is on the fringe of relevance, and may actually have some Daily Fantasy value for week one with the aforementioned Blount suspended and the quarterback situation up in the air.
