What to think of the Dallas defense

The Dallas Cowboys have improved the talent around the defense at nearly every major position, and may have the leagues most interesting defensive unit. (NFL.com)

Fantasy Impact:

After a terrible 2013 season where Dallas gave up a league worst 413 Yds/G, the Cowboys started off 2014 losing future Hall of Fame DE DeMarcus Ware to free agency and star LB Sean Lee to an ACL injury. However, the Cowboys would go on to surprise most by showing major improvement under new DC Rod Marinell. In the 2015 off-season Dallas added pass rushing talent by signing DE Greg Hardy and drafting pass rush specialist Randy Gregory. The Cowboys also addressed their biggest weakness in the secondary by drafting athletic freak CB Byron Jones in the 1st round of the 2015 draft. But as far as fantasy players are concerned this is still a defense to avoid. Considering both Hardy and LB Rolando McClain will each be serving four game suspensions to start the season, and 2014 sack leader DE Jeremy Mincey is currently holding out of training camp. The Dallas defense also has a tough start to the schedule playing five of the top eleven offenses of 2014 (NYG, PHI, ATL, NO, NE). But if the defense can stay healthy and survive an onslaught of top offenses, the Cowboys may be a sleeper D weeks 10-17. During this stretch the Dallas D will be playing only two top fifteen scoring offenses of 2014 season (MIA, GB)
