Giovani Bernard rushes three times, catches one pass vs. Tampa

by Matt Barbato | Mon, Aug 24th 11:06pm EDT

Bengals' running back Giovani Bernard rushed for eight yards on three carries and caught one pass for seven yards on two targets in Cincinnati's second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night. He also went back for a punt return, but called a fair catch.

Fantasy Impact:

The all important third preseason game will be extremely important for Bernard, as his status within the offense is still relatively unknown. He didn't get a carry until the second quarter and was targeted once in the first quarter. It's clear Bernard is the second back behind Jeremy Hill, but how far the gap is between the two is relatively unknown. His primary role is expected to be more as a pass catcher than a three down back. Bernard is ranked as the 28th back by our experts and is being drafted as the 29th back. Watch Bernard's playing time closely in Cincinnati's third preseason game Saturday night against the Chicago Bears to get a better idea of what his role in the offense will look like during the regular season.
