Victor Cruz likely to miss final preseason game

by Nick Ritrivi | Sun, Aug 30th 8:47pm EDT

It is being reported that Victor Cruz will now likely miss all four preseason games due to a lingering calf sprain in his left leg. This calls into question whether he will be ready for Week 1 at Dallas on September 13. Cruz is returning from a torn patellar tendon in his right knee and the calf sprain is reportedly unrelated. Fantasy Impact:

Recovery from a torn patellar tendon is one of the most difficult injuries to come back from, making Cruz's future as a top-tier WR uncertain. Cruz is a huge injury risk this season (evidenced by the fact that his Week 1 status is already in doubt) and, even if healthy, he may not return to his prior top-tier form. For fantasy purposes, Cruz is a WR2/3 with an extremely high risk/reward factor this season. He could either meet WR2 expectations, greatly exceed them or be a bust/an IR candidate. One of the good guys in the NFL, hopefully Cruz will return to his top form in 2015 with no further complications.
