Bills re-sign Matt Cassel

by Mike Mahern | Tue, Sep 8th 8:24pm EDT

Just days after releasing him as part of their roster cut down to the league maximum 53 players, the Buffalo Bills have re-signed QB Matt Cassel, per a team statement. As part of the announcement, Bills head coach Rex Ryan also confirmed that Cassel will serve as the primary backup to starter Tyrod Taylor, with former first round pick EJ Manuel relegated to third string. Fantasy Impact:

Cassel still has value as a backup, so it isn't terribly surprising to see him being brought back into the fold in Buffalo for a more agreeable price tag. The mild surprise is the confirmation of his place in the pecking order ahead of EJ Manuel, who came on strong late in the preseason, but whose future with the organization is murkier than ever. Taylor remains the only one of the bunch with a shred of fantasy potential, and even he is only a speculative deep bench add, at best.
