Alex Smith attempts career-high 50 pass attempts in playoff loss

by Brad Richter | Sun, Jan 17th 10:27am EST

Smith attempted a career-high 50 pass attempts as the Chiefs quarterback tried to come from behind in the 27-20 playoff loss to the Patriots. Smith completed 29 of his pass attempts (58 percent) for 246 yards. He threw one touchdown pass, which came in the third quarter to wide receiver Albert Wilson from 10 yards out to cut the score to 21-13 at the time. Smith also had numerous scrambles and designed runs totalling nine carries for 44 yards on the ground.

Fantasy Impact:

Smith and the Chiefs had a good season from a real football perspective finishing the regular season with an 11-5 record and winning a playoff game, but his fantasy upside remains limited in the ball controlled short passing game that is run by head coach Andy Reid. Smith finished the year with 3,486 passing yards and 20 TD passes to go along with 498 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Smith is signed through the 2018 season. Fantasy owners should expect the same level of production again next season from Smith.
