ESPN's Rich Cimini predicts that Bilal Powell will be the Jets' second-string back at the beginning of training camp. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: With Stevan Ridley out for an unknown amount of time with his recovery from ACL surgery and Chris Ivory as the unquestioned No. 1, Powell figures to be the No. 2 guy for now. He's their best third-down back, which can give him PPR value in deep leagues.
In the absence of Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown on four carries, and had two catches for 13 yards in the first half of the Jets' preseason game against the Bengals on Saturday night. (Source: NFL.com)
Fantasy Impact: This is an interesting development, because Bilal Powell could have some value if either Chris Johnson or Chris Ivory get injured. He'll likely end up on waivers in most leagues, but look to pick him up should Johnson or Ivory go down at any point.
Bilal Powell injured his hamstring this week during the Jets first full contact practice. He will sit out this weekend's scrimmage. The team hopes that Powell will be healthy enough to go next Thursday against the Colts. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: Powell may not be a household name but he plays a vital role in the Jets offense. In 2013 Powell had 176 carries and Chris Ivory had 182, a near even split. With Mike Goodson MIA, Powell was handed the primary back up role and showed good awareness and consistency. Considering Chris Johnson's surgically repaired meniscus and Ivory's injury issues, Powell could be a valuable handcuff.
