Christian Ponder will get the start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night after starter Teddy Bridgewater was ruled out with an ankle injury. The former first-round pick started nine games for the Vikings last season, but Ponder's ineffective play resulted in him beginning this year as No. 3 on the depth chart. Ponder is the third starting quarterback in three weeks for the Vikings. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: While Ponder has had success in the past against the Packers don't expect for it to continue tonight at Lambeau Field. Ponder should only be considered as a desperation play in leagues that start 2 QBs and he also depresses the value of the rest of the Vikings skill players so temper your expectations accordingly.
“I’m preparing to play, but we’re hoping for the best with Teddy," Ponder said on Tuesday. The 4th-year Florida State product came on in relief for Teddy Bridgewater in the 4th quarter last Sunday. He totaled one yard on one carry with no pass attempts. (Source: Fox Sports)
Fantasy Impact: Bridgewater wasn't able to take part in practice today other than some running on the sidelines. The hope is he can get in at least a limited session on Wednesday. Ponder has 35 starts to his name, holding a 14-20-1 record with 38 TD's and 34 INT's. The decision with Bridgewater could be decided prior to kickoff on Thursday night.
“It’s Teddy’s team I’m going to prepare to play if something happens but I’m here to support Teddy & help him any way I can," Ponder said on Saturday. (Source: Twin Cities)
Fantasy Impact: Ponder, who is now penciled is Bridgewater's backup was inactive the first 3 weeks of the season. He owns a career 77.3 QB rating with 38 TD's and 34 INT's since being drafted by the VIkings in 2012. Even if Bridgewater struggles or suffers an injury, Ponder is far from fantasy relevance.
