Nick Fairley released with a non-football illness designation

Fairly was discovered to have a heart condition that prevented him from playing after signing a four-year, $28 million contract before last season.

Fantasy Impact

This may be the end of a great career. His IDP owners are free to drop him.

Nick Fairley to miss entire 2017 season

The New Orleans Saints placed defensive lineman Nick Fairley on the reserve/non-football-injury list, ending his 2017 season, the team announced Monday. The move came after Fairley consulted with doctors regarding a heart condition he's played with since entering the league in 2011. There is a chance that this heart condition could end Fairley's career.

Fantasy Impact

This is tough news for a Saints team that brought Fairley in on a four-year, $28 million contract this offseason and hoped he would help anchor the middle of their defensive line. The Saints will definitely be without Fairley this season, and there is a decent chance that he never plays a down for them.

Saints expected to sign Nick Fairley

The New Orleans Saints are expected to sign interior pass rusher Nick Fairley according to Around the NFL.

Fantasy Impact

The Saints have been active in free agency in the recent week on the defensive side of the football. New Orleans' latest target is interior lineman Nick Fairley, who is coming off of a visit with the Patriots. Fairley spent last season on the Rams' stout defense and finished the year with 29 tackles, a half of a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass deflection. Fairley had never lived up to his top 15 draft status but will certainly add quality depth to a dismal Saints defense.

Rams sign DT Nick Fairley to 1-year deal

The St. Louis Rams agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with former Lions DT Nick Fairley on Friday. The deal is worth $5 million with $7.5 million in potential incentives.

Fantasy Impact

Those incentives likely include a bonus for staying on the field, as Fairley has already missed 18 games in his 4-year career, including half of last season with ligament sprains in both knees. The move helps fill the hole left by the recently released Kendall Langford. Fairley will likely backup Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald, but there will be plenty of opportunities for tackles and sacks should he stay healthy.

Lions no longer interested in re-signing Nick Fairley

Detroit Lions DT, Nick Fairley, has reportedly drawn interest from six different teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, who he is scheduled to visit with today. One of the teams not expressing interest in the former first round draft pick is the Lions. It was rumored that Detroit was hoping to hold on to Fairley, especially after losing DT Ndamukong Suh to free agency, but according to Fairley's agent, the Lions are no longer interested in re-signing the last member of their 2011 draft class.

Fantasy Impact

It looks like Fairley is going to be playing somewhere other than Detroit this year. It is still unclear who the Lions are considering to replace him, but there has been some speculation that the team is considering a change to a 3-4 defense.
