Re-Signed with the Patriots for 4-years $17 million. Coming off a career year where he posted 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and 4 touchdowns. It's a much better deal for the Pats than their 5-year, $28.5 million commitment to Danny Amendola appears through one season. Amendola is locked into a roster spot for 2014, but the Patriots could save $2.1 million in salary cap space by releasing him next offseason. The Edelman deal magnifies that 2015 is a make-or-break year for Amendola in New England.
He started the 2013 season with a 6-game scoring streak, scoring a total of 8 touchdowns over that span, along with producing at least 9 standard Fantasy points in 8 straight games. Then came Denver’s bye in Week 9, and Welker fell apart. He had just one game with double digits in Fantasy points in his final five outings before missing the last three games of the year with a concussion. I have Welker a bit higher then the majority of others but I still consider Welker a No. 2 Fantasy receiver worth drafting as early as Round 4 or 5 but I like his upside this year if he can remain healthy. If he can stay healthy for 16 games you could be looking at 80-plus receptions, 1,000-plus yards and at least 8 touchdowns.

Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
PPR machine. He's the new Wes Welker and only injury will make that stop.
Should continue to be a PPR machine in this offense. No Decker helps.

Outstanding preseason. Clearly Brady's number one wideout.
Won't be active until week 6-7.

Downgrade here b/c of too much uncertainty after his 3rd concussion in a year.

James Hatfield
Hatty Waiver Wire Guru
PPR monster on the Patriots. He showed that he can be the reliable option for Brady and he will find a way to post a ton of receptions, 1,000+ yards and near double digit TDs.
PPR leaguers favorite selection. He will now where the concussion helmet so hoping he remains on the field all of 2014.

Jon Collins
Fantasy Sports LR
In theory, the development of the rest of the receiving corps and the presumed good health of Gronkowski cuts into Edelman's top10 target load, but can only drop him so far after impressive, reliable, durable 2013.

Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
Edelman emerged as a big target in the Patriots offense, finishing the season with 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and six receiving touchdowns. He is the Patriots receiver to own right now, but will probably not see as many targets as he did a year ago.
Concussions caught up with Welker this year and he scored only one touchdown from Week 10 to Week 17. I would be concerned about drafting a 33-year old receiver high that has a significant concussion history. I do not think he stays healthy this year. He also has a four game suspension.

Tozzi Brothers
Legion Report
A lot of Edelman’s success last year came from being the only legit option in New England. In 2013 TE Gronkowski missed 13 games, RB Vereen missed 8 games, WR Amendola missed 4 games, WR Dobson missed 4 games and WR Thompkins missed 4 games – that’s a lot of Targets gone for Tom Brady. Edelman was Tom Brady’s only consistent WR which resulted in his 1000+ yard season. With everyone back this year, Edelman will have a hard time receiving the 151 Targets he received in 2013. He’s still a High-End WR3 with WR2 upside in a New England Offense that has had their trouble with injured players.
Last year Peyton Manning saw 160 Blitz’s and was only sacked twice. His average time to throw the ball in a Blitz was 2.13 seconds, according to PFF. A reason for Manning’s success against the Blitz last season was his “security blanket’s” in both Wes Welker and Knowshon Moreno. With Moreno gone, Montee Ball isn’t the receiver Moreno was (60 receptions appear out of reach.) You can expect Defenses to continue to put pressure on the 38 year old Peyton Manning and with this you can expect a lot quick passes to Welker again in 2014. However, the concerning part with Wes Welker is that he is just one bad concussion away from ending his career after receiving two in 2013. Consequently, Denver resulted in signing Emmanuel Sanders – who’s able to play a similar role. If he’s able to play a full 17 Game season, we love Welker … but we’re skeptical he’s able to do that in 2014.

Pat Fitzmaurice
The Football Girl
Numbers will fall off if Gronk, Dobson, Amendola stay healthy.
Not a sexy choice, but hard to overlook a high-volume WR playing with Peyton.

Chet Gresham
The Fake Football
There are a lot of choices in New England, but injuries left Edelman as the de facto choice last season and he shined in PPR leagues.
I have been wishy washy on Welker this year. His age and concussion history could provide some room for Cody Latimer and Emmanuel Sanders to take a step up at some point, but as long as he's on the field he's going to catch many, many passes.

Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
Solid flex option, worry usage could go down if Thompkins and Dobson take looks on outside and Amendola somehow stays healthy in slot
Will push for WR1 numbers when healthy
