Daniel Marcus takes us through Week 14’s two-start pitchers. Be sure to review our Two-Start Pitcher Rankings chart
Elite Options
- Johnny Cueto (7/7 @WSH, 7/12 @MIA)
- Carlos Carrasco (7/6 HOU, 7/11 OAK)
- Corey Kluber (7/7 HOU, 7/12 OAK)
- Dallas Keuchel (7/6 @CLE, 7/11 @TB)
- A.J. Burnett (7/6 SD, 7/11 STL)
- Francisco Liriano (7/7 SD, 7/12 STL)
Not much need be said about this group of pitchers, as there are very few circumstances in which you wouldn’t start a single one of them.
Strong Options
- Brett Anderson (7/7 PHI, 7/12 MIL)
- Taijuan Walker (7/7 DET, 7/12 LAA)
- Jon Lester (7/6 STL, 7/12 CWS)
- Jesse Hahn (7/7 @NYY, 7/12 @CLE)
- Chris Young (7/7 TB, 7/12 TOR)
- James Shields (7/6 @PIT, 7/12 @TEX)
- Edinson Volquez (7/6 TB, 7/11 TOR)
- Kyle Gibson (7/7 BAL, 7/12 DET)
- Chris Heston (7/6 NYM, 7/12 PHI)
Anderson has quietly had a quality season, as many of his peripheral stats compare favorably to Dallas Keuchel. Walker and Hahn are two young pitchers who have performed well of late and deserve consideration to be started on a weekly basis. Young is a master of keeping the ball in the park and pitches effectively given his defense and ballpark. Shields and Lester have both been disappointing this season, but given their strikeout ability they still deserve a start for most fantasy teams. Gibson has managed a nice campaign to this point, but beware of the matchups this week. Contrarily, Heston is a good option this week specifically because he faces scuffling offenses.
Low-End Options
- Trevor May (7/6 BAL, 7/11 DET)
- Dan Haren (7/7 @BOS, 7/12 CIN)
- Chad Bettis (7/7 LAA, 7/12 ATL)
- Anthony DeSclafani (7/6 @WSH, 7/11 @MIA)
- Mark Buehrle (7/6 @CWS, 7/11 @KC)
- Jose Quintana (7/7 TOR, 7/12 @CHC)
- Miguel Gonzalez (7/6 @MIN, 7/12 WSH)
- Doug Fister (7/6 CIN, 7/12 @BAL)
- Jon Niese (7/6 @SF, 7/12 ARI)
- Andrew Heaney (7/7 @COL, 7/12 @SEA)
- Vincent Velasquez (7/7 @CLE, 7/12 @TB)
May put together a nice June after struggling in April and May, but faces some tough offenses this week. Haren has been solid but due to a lack of strikeouts is a risk. The same is true of DeSclafani, Buehrle, Niese, Gonzalez and Fister. Bettis has had nice results, but cannot yet be considered a high-end starting option. Quintana has not lived up to his sleeper potential and also faces tough matchups this week. Heaney has lived up to his billing as a top prospect, but any pitcher who isn’t a dominant ace is a risky play at Coors Field. Velasquez has shown the promise that comes with being a top prospect, but has also taken his lumps. His matchups this week save him from being on the “stay away” list.
Stay Away
- Carlos Rodon (7/6 TOR, 7/11 @CHC)
- Alex Colome (7/6 @KC, 7/11 HOU)
- Matt Moore (7/7 @KC, 7/12 HOU)
- Kyle Lohse (7/6 ATL, 7/12 @LAD)
- Tyler Lyons (7/7 @CHC, 7/12 @PIT)
- Aaron Harang (7/6 @LAD, 7/11 @SF)
- Matt Boyd (7/7 @CWS, 7/12 @KC)
- Kyle Ryan (7/7 @SEA, 7/12 @MIN)
- Roenis Elias (7/6 DET, 7/11 LAA)
- Carlos Frias (7/6 PHI, 7/11 MIL)
- C.C. Sabathia (7/7 OAK, 7/12 @BOS)
- Alfredo Simon (7/6 @SEA, 7/11 @MIN)
- Matthew Wisler (7/6 @MIL, 7/11 @NYM)
- Manny Banuelos (7/7 @MIL, 7/12 @NYM)
