FanDuel Lineup: Friday August 14

FanDuel Lineup: Friday August 14
Max Scherzer is not the most expensive DFS pitcher for a change

Will you be enticed by Max Scherzer’s reduced price point?

Fourteen games are on the slate tonight. The Cubs and White Sox are playing a day game that won’t be available on the main slate. With there being a game in Coors and three elite aces going, you’re going to have to pick your spots wisely. FanDuel did a good job of inflating the prices of players that are hitting in Coors tonight.

This article won’t feature any of the Padres and Rockies, but they are all viable options if you decide to target hitters in that game. There are plenty of options on the offensive side that will come with lower ownership due to the game being played in Coors. Orioles, Red Sox, Mariners, Rangers, Brewers, Astros and Dodgers are offenses you should look to this evening. The Cardinals and Rays make for sneaky plays tonight as well.

The only game that poses any threats is in Colorado, but the forecast shows the chance of thunderstorms clearing up before game time. If anything, that game would most likely begin in a delay and go the full nine innings. Make sure to stay updated on the weather by following Kevin Roth on Twitter @KevinRothWx. He will have a full DFS forecast.

Pitcher

Usually targeting right-handed pitchers vs. San Francisco isn’t suggested, but Scherzer isn’t your typical right-handed pitcher. FanDuel didn’t get the pricing right on this one. If Clayton Kershaw isn’t on the slate, Max Scherzer should be the highest-priced pitcher. FanDuel has Corey Kluber and David Price slightly more expensive than Scherzer tonight. Scherzer gets a ballpark boost in the spacious AT&T Park and comes into this game with a 2.53 FIP, 30.3 K% and a career high SwStr% at 15.0%.

Other Notables

Catcher

Lucroy is near minimum salary and will hit at the top of the Brewers’ lineup. The opposing pitcher, Adam Morgan, struggles vs. right-handed hitters, allowing a .371 wOBA. Lucroy is having an up-and-down season this year, but he crushed lefties last season with a .367 wOBA, 131 wRC+, .159 ISO.

Other Notables

First Base

Prince is in mid-season form and has made us all forget about his injury-plagued 2014 campaign. He is enjoying the warm weather in Texas with the jet stream out to right field. Fielder currently has a .405 wOBA, 157 wRC+, .156 ISO vs. right-handed pitching this season.

Other Notables

Second Base

Wong always makes for a great option when he is below $3,000. He is having a solid season with a .347 wOBA, 122 wRC+, .169 ISO vs. right-handed pitching. Wong also carries SB upside.

Other Notables

Third Base

Longoria is having a solid season that is going under the radar. He gets a huge park boost in Texas tonight. Longo has made a career off hitting left-handed pitchers. Feel free to load up on Rays’ right-handed hitters today. Longoria has a .395 wOBA, 160 wRC+, .180 ISO this season vs. right-handed pitching.

Other Notables

Shortstop

The Brewers are in a good spot tonight vs. Morgan. Segura is minimum salary tonight at a position you should feel comfortable punting. He might be at the top of the lineup and comes with SB upside.

Other Notables

Outfield

Braun comes in as one of the top overall options tonight. His salary is reasonable at $4,000 and he faces a left-handed pitcher at home. Braun is having a very good season and is crushing LHP this year. He has a .410 wOBA, 160 wRC+, .247 ISO. With those numbers, he should cost more than $4,000 tonight given his matchup and ballpark factor.

Puig is either hated or loved. He makes for a great tournament play on a nightly basis. He can look lost at the plate or he can look like the most dominant player in the game. He draws a favorable matchup at home and comes into this game with a .359 wOBA, 132 wRC+, .224 ISO vs. left-handed pitching.

Smith is always low owned and comes with HR upside. He feasts off right-handed pitching and gets a ballpark boost by heading to Fenway. Targeting hitters against Joe Kelly is highly advised. Smith boasts a .331 wOBA, 115 wRC+, .185 ISO vs. right-handed pitching this season.

Other Notables

FanDuel is offering a variety of tournaments tonight with a range of low to high dollar entry fees. Browse through the lobby and reserve your entries before they fill. Always be sure to check lineups when they come out. You can find sneaky value plays when someone moves up in the lineup especially if they’re playing in a favorable ballpark or facing a below average pitcher.

Take a look at the Vegas lines and run totals when targeting teams to stack or pitchers you want to use. The money line along with the run total can be a good indicator for you. For example; if a team comes in as a -175 favorite and the run total is 9.5, Vegas expects the -175 team to put up 4.5-5 runs and will most likely have a run prop set around that number. You might want to target hitters from that team and avoid the pitcher.
