Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 4

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 4
Michael Vick has a lot of weapons to work with in Pittsburgh

Michael Vick has a lot of weapons to work with in Pittsburgh

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are less than 50% owned and could be worth starting for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Quarterback

Michael Vick – Pittsburgh Steelers (3% owned)
vs. Baltimore Ravens

Vick will take over the explosive Pittsburgh offense for the next four-to-six weeks while Ben Roethlisberger is sidelined with a knee injury. He came into last Sunday’s game and completed five-of-six passes for 38 yards. Hopefully with a few days to prepare as the starter, he will be in a good spot to perform against a Ravens secondary that has been torched by the Bengals and Raiders over the last two games. Although not the same player he used to be, Vick also will provide some rushing upside, which will keep his floor high.

Tyrod Taylor – Buffalo Bills (38% owned)
vs. New York Giants

Taylor is still available on a lot of waiver wires, even after he posted a third straight solid performance against Miami. He has been better as a passer than anyone could have expected and offers some rushing upside as well. He is coming off a Week 3 demolition of the Miami defense which saw him throw for 277 yards and three touchdowns. He could have had more, but he watched the last eight minutes of the game from the sidelines because the game was out of hand. This may be the last week you can attain Taylor from the waiver wire as he’s shaping up as a borderline QB1, especially in good matchups. The Giants qualify as a good matchup, as they have been quite generous to opposing quarterbacks. On the season New York is allowing 20.3 fantasy points per game, a mark that is good for eighth most in the league (standard scoring).

Tight End

Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions (50% owned)
@ Seattle Seahawks

Fantasy owners have been slow to warm up to Ebron so far. Perhaps it is because he was a disappointment last season in his rookie year or perhaps it is because there are so many mouths to feed in Detroit. Either way, he is a top tight end option this week against the Seahawks. Although Seattle’s Legion of Boom is notorious for shutting down opposing wide receivers, the one weak spot in their defense over the years has been defending the tight end. This season they are sixth in the league in fantasy points allowed to the position, allowing 14.5 points per game (standard scoring). With Richard Sherman likely blanketing Calvin Johnson, expect the 11.3 targets per game that Megatron is averaging to go towards Ebron and Golden Tate.

Charles Clay – Buffalo Bills (17% owned)
vs. New York Giants

Clay has shown a nice chemistry with Tyrod Taylor, as they have connected for a touchdown in two of their first three games together. Clay usually doesn’t offer much in the way of yardage, but he’s worth taking a look at, especially considering how poor the Giants have been defending tight ends. New York ranks third in the league in most fantasy points allowed to the position, averaging 16.3 per game.

Antonio Gates – San Diego Chargers (46% owned)
Not playing in Week 4.

Gates is a bonus pick up with an eye on the future. He will be serving the last game of his suspension in Week 4 and will be set to return to the Chargers in Week 5. If you have a roster space to spare, now is the time to make a proactive pickup before he becomes a hot waiver commodity next week.

Note: Stats are from before Week 3’s Monday Night Football game was played.
