Quarterback
Derek Carr – Oakland Raiders ($34)
@ Pittsburgh Steelers
All Carr did last week was torch a formidable Jets’ defense for 333 yards and four touchdowns. He now gets to travel to Pittsburgh to take on a considerably less skilled Steelers’ secondary. Pittsburgh’s run defense has been playing well, which should force Oakland to pass the ball often. With Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree playing well and the Raiders’ offense firing on all cylinders, Carr is shaping up to be a top value again this week.
Other notables:
- Tyrod Taylor ($34)
- Jay Cutler ($33)
- Peyton Manning ($31)
- Jameis Winston ($30)
Running Back
Jeremy Langford – Chicago Bears ($14)
@ San Diego Chargers
People will be all over Langford this weekend, and for good reason. His price is great, the opportunity is there, and the matchup is right. Langford is filling in for the injured Matt Forte, who is expected to miss at least the next two weeks. The Chargers are currently giving up the most fantasy points per game to running backs at 24.3. They also are ranked last in the league in rush defense DVOA by Football Outsiders. Langford is a must-start this weekend.
Other notables:
- Jeremy Hill ($25)
- DeAngelo Williams ($23)
- Darren McFadden ($20)
- Melvin Gordon ($15)
Wide Receiver
Brandin Cooks – New Orleans Saints ($19)
vs. Tennessee Titans
The Saints offense finally came to life last week, as Drew Brees tossed seven touchdowns and the team put up 52 points. Cooks has seen his price drop as he has underperformed at times after heading into the year with lofty expectations. He has started to show some signs of life as of late, hauling in 12 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns over his last two games. Look for Cooks to keep rolling against the Titans this week.
Other notables:
- Michael Crabtree ($24)
- Jordan Matthews ($20)
- Rishard Matthews ($19)
- Steve Johnson ($18)
- Malcom Floyd ($17)
Tight End
Heath Miller – Pittsburgh Steelers
vs. Oakland Raiders
Miller has two things going for him in Week 9. First, he has Ben Roethlisberger back. Roethlisberger targeted Miller relentlessly in Week 8, throwing the veteran’s way 13 times. In addition to Miller’s solid rapport with Big Ben, the Oakland Raiders are the worst team in the league against tight ends, allowing 13.8 fantasy points per game to the position. Miller is a top tight end play this week and his low price point just makes him all the more attractive.
Other notables:
- Delanie Walker ($17)
- Martellus Bennett ($17)
- Charles Clay ($17)
- Jacob Tamme ($14)
Defense
New York Jets ($12)
vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The price of New York’s defense has dipped, likely a result of their implosion against the Raiders last week. In one of the most shocking games in Week 8, they allowed the Raiders to score 34 points. This is still a talented defense and they are worth firing up this week considering they are back at home and taking on Blake Bortles. Bortles has improved greatly since his rookie year, but he can still be mistake-prone and it is likely he will struggle with the Jets’ pass rush.
Other notables:
- New England Patriots ($14)
- New Orleans Saints ($13)
- Dallas Cowboys ($10)
