Quarterback
Teddy Bridgewater – Minnesota Vikings ($23)
vs. New York Giants
Bridgewater is coming off his best game of the season, tossing four touchdowns and running for a fifth in Week 15 against the Bears. Head coach Mike Zimmer recently said the offense will remain run-first which does make Bridgewater better suited for tournament play. That being said, there’s a chance that Adrian Peterson will not play this weekend, which would likely force the Vikings to throw more than they would prefer. The Giants have one of the worst pass defenses in the league, ranking just 27th in DVOA according to Football Outsiders.
Other notables:
- Tyrod Taylor ($30)
- Alex Smith ($30)
- Jay Cutler ($27)
- Johnny Manziel ($23)
Running Back
Denard Robinson – Jacksonville Jaguars ($14)
@ New Orleans Saints
Both Robinson and David Johnson are excellent value plays this weekend, but Robinson earns the nod here because he is much cheaper and could fly under the radar. Due to the Saints’ poor pass defense, Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville pass catchers will be popular plays. With Bortles being highly-owned, there’s a good chance daily players won’t want to roster both Bortles and his starting running back in Robinson as that is usually a negative correlation. The Saints’ struggles against the pass are well-documented, but they have been almost as bad against the run, ranking 29th in DVOA. A Bortles-Robinson stack could be a nice contrarian play as Robinson has proven to be adept in the passing game.
Other notables:
- David Johnson ($21)
- Ryan Mathews ($19)
- Karlos Williams ($18)
- Tim Hightower ($17)
Wide Receiver
Rueben Randle – New York Giants ($14)
@ Minnesota Vikings
With Odell Beckham suspended for this weekend’s contest against the Vikings, look for Randle to take on a bigger role in the passing game for one of the pass-heaviest teams in the league. Randle can be an inconsistent player, but he has flashed big-play ability in the past and he does have six receiving touchdowns on the year. Minnesota’s defense is middle of the road against the pass, so Eli Manning and his receivers should be able to operate without much trouble on Sunday.
Other notables:
- Markus Wheaton ($16)
- Jordan Matthews ($14)
- Stefon Diggs ($13)
- Dorial Green-Beckham ($12)
Tight End
Will Tye – New York Giants ($12)
@ Minnesota Vikings
As mentioned above, the Giants will be without Odell Beckham and with him goes 10.8 targets per game. Look for those targets to be redistributed to Reuben Randle and Tye. The Vikings defense is not very effective at covering opposing tight ends. Football Outsiders ranks the Vikings 26th in the league in defending the position and Tye has become a big part of New York’s offense as of late. Over the past two weeks, Tye has turned 13 targets into 10 catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Other notables:
- Travis Kelce ($15)
- Zach Miller ($14)
- Zach Ertz ($14)
- Eric Ebron ($10)
Defense
Detroit Lions ($10)
vs. San Francisco 49ers
Detroit’s defense has been somewhat of a disappointment this season after being a top-rated unit for much of 2014, but this is a week that fantasy owners can trust them. They will get a favorable matchup at home against a 49ers’ offense that has struggled to move the ball all season. Also, in Week 14, the 49ers offensive line gave up nine sacks to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns have just 28 total sacks on the year, meaning more than 30% of that production came against San Francisco. Look for the Lions to be a top defensive option this weekend at home at Ford Field.
Other notables:
- Houston Texans ($11)
- Tennessee Titans ($10)
- Buffalo Bills ($10)
