Make sure Ryan O’Reilly isn’t available on your waiver wire

Um, did anyone actually think the Flyers or Avalanche would be in playoff contention this late into the season? Oh right, waiver wire picks. Yeah, let’s get to it.

Ownership totals are in ESPN leagues as of Tuesday.

Ryan O’Reilly – C – BUF – 59.1 Percent

O’Reilly returns to the lineup for the Sabres Wednesday night against a Habs team that is badly banged up. There’s not much really to say about O’Reilly at this point. Guy was having a great season (49 points in 59 games) and was one of the bright spots on a truly mediocre Sabres squad. Skating with the effervescent Evander Kane, O’Reilly will look to pick up where he left off and rack up points just in time for fantasy hockey playoffs.

Kris Versteeg – RW – LAK – 5.1 Percent

Kris Versteeg’s Los Angeles tenure did not begin as he would have hoped, having been banished to the 4th line for his first four games with the team and not seeing more than ten minutes in each contest (and also the zero points and a -1.) However, in his last 3 games, Versteeg has jumped up to the top line with Anze Kopitar and Milan Lucic and the early returns have been promising – 2 goals and one assist while getting more consistent ice time. Versteeg should be a solid depth pickup – he has had a sneaky OK season with 35 points in 69 games and, of course, playing with the class of LA is much different than playing with the boys in Carolina.

Sven Andrighetto – RW – MON – 5.2 Percent

As Brendan Gallagher is currently sidelined with a lower-body injury, Andrighetto has slid into that top line right wing position without linemates Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk missing a beat. Most of Andrighetto’s value comes from the crazy hot streak Galchenyuk is currently on (18 points in his last 20 games) and, obviously, how awesome Patches is. In the four games Gallagher has missed, Andrighetto has put up four points and played a nice supporting role on that line. With Gallagher expect to be out another couple weeks, Andrighetto owners could continue to benefit.
