We have a split schedule today, with six early and seven late games. Finding value is always crucial whether playing cash games or tournament contests, especially when top pitching is available or expensive bats are in great situations. Let’s take a look at some value plays for FanDuel.

Pitcher
Kenta Maeda (LAD): $7,200 @ SD
The Padres have a horrible offense and I expect them to be worse against right-handed pitching as the season continues to unfold. This is a pitcher-friendly environment in San Diego and the Japanese import provides excellent salary relief at the pitching position. He projects to be better than average in walks, strikeouts and home runs allowed and he is a strong value play tonight.
Other Notables
- Anibal Sanchez (DET): $7,900 @ MIA
- Juan Nicasio (PIT): $6,900 vs. STL
- Patrick Corbin (ARI): $7,200 vs. COL
Catcher
Cameron Rupp (PHI): $2,000 @ CIN
Rupp is the regular catcher for the Phillies this season, despite giving way to Carlos Ruiz on Opening Day. While the sample size is limited (77 at-bats), Rupp has posted a .351 wOBA against left-handed pitching in his career. The park environment is a plus and lefty, Brandon Finnegan, has allowed five home runs to right-handed bats in 40 innings pitched, creating a solid punt play in Rupp tonight.
Other Notables
- Nick Hundley (COL): $2,400 @ ARI
- Steve Clevenger (SEA): $2,300 @ TEX
- Christopher Herrmann (ARI): $2,000 vs. COL
First Base
Darin Ruf (PHI): $2,200 @ CIN
I would anticipate Ryan Howard getting the night off with a left-handed pitcher starting for the Reds and if this is the case, Ruf would emerge as a great value play. Since 2013, Ruf has posted a .396 wOBA and .233 ISO against lefties and the park environment should inflate his power. This is evidenced by the fact that Great American Ballpark tied with Coors Field for the best home run score for right-handed hitters.
Other Notables
- Mark Teixeira (NYY): $2,800 vs. HOU
- Adam Lind (SEA): $2,500 @ TEX
- Chris Carter (MIL): $2,500 vs. SF
Second Base
Cesar Hernandez (PHI): $2,200 @ CIN $2,200
Yet another Philadelphia player makes the cut as I continue to pick on a young left-handed pitcher. Hernandez benefits from a prime spot in the batting order and he should see plenty of run-scoring opportunities as a result.
Other Notables
- Scooter Gennett (MIL): $2,700 vs. SF
- Brandon Phillips (CIN): $2,400 vs. PHI
Third Base
Jake Lamb (ARI): $2,400 vs. COL
Provided Lamb slots in the top five of the batting order, he would represent a fine source of salary relief against Tyler Chatwood. The Diamondbacks have an implied team total of 4.82 runs, which should result in ample chances to produce.
Other Notables
- Evan Longoria (TB): $3,000 vs. TOR
- Eugenio Suarez (CIN): $2,700 vs. PHI
- Danny Valencia (OAK): $2,500 vs. CWS
Shortstop
Ketel Marte (SEA): $2,500 @ TEX
The Mariners have an implied team total of five runs in a good hitting environment this afternoon and this creates a lot of value plays within their lineup as a result. Colby Lewis is a fly ball pitcher who also allows a high volume of line drives and this is likely going to spell trouble. Marte’s wheels provide an added bonus for your lineups.
Other Notables
- Trevor Story (COL): $2,900 @ ARI
- Zack Cozart (CIN): $2,700 vs. PHI
- Jean Segura (ARI): $2,700 vs. COL
Outfielders
Delino Deshields (TEX): $2,800 vs. SEA
The Rangers have an implied team total of four and a half runs today against lefty, Wade Miley, which should translate into plenty of scoring opportunities for Deshields atop this lineup. Since 2013, Miley has allowed a .328 wOBA to right-handed hitters while serving up nearly one home run per nine innings. Deshields has nice stolen base upside he deserves strong consideration for your lineups today.
Norichika Aoki (SEA): $2,500 @ TEX
Aoki should lead off for the Mariners and as I noted earlier, they project as the highest scoring offense of the entire day. Opposing pitcher, Colby Lewis, has allowed a .347 wOBA to lefties since 2013 and this, coupled with his leadoff spot, creates plenty of value for Aoki.
Socrates Brito (ARI): $2,200 vs. COL
Brito should draw another start with a right-handed pitcher starting for the Rockies and while there’s always some risk in targeting a talented, albeit raw player, the upside is worth targeting. Tyler Chatwood is one of the weaker starting pitchers today and I have no issues punting with Brito or utilizing him as part of an Arizona stack.
Other Notables
- Seth Smith (SEA): $2,500 @ TEX
- Eddie Rosario (MIN): $2,500 @ BAL
- Michael Taylor (WAS): $2,200 @ ATL
