Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 10
RHP Juan Nicasio will face a Mets' lineup that has had little success against righties

RHP Juan Nicasio will face a Mets’ lineup that has had little success against righties

Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for pitchers who are less than 30% owned and could be useful streamers for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo. Please note the probable pitcher matchups could change throughout the week due to rainouts or other circumstances, so be sure to check back before picking up and starting one of these recommendations.

All ownership percentages and statistics are current as of Friday, June 3.

Sunday, June 4
Matt Wisler (ATL) @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Ownership: 27%

Wisler has been turning heads this season as he heads into this start with a 3.16 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 55.1 innings of work. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since April 26 and will take on a Dodgers’ lineup that has been disappointing this season. Wisler might not pick up a win considering his offensive backing isn’t strong, but he has a solid chance at limiting runs scored in this one.

Monday, June 5
Williams Perez (ATL) @ San Diego Padres
Ownership: 1%

Perez doesn’t have great strikeout upside, but he does draw one of the most favorable matchups in the league for right-handed pitchers in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks. The Padres, when facing right-handed pitching, are ranked in the bottom five of the league in batting average, wOBA and ISO. They are also striking out at the fourth-highest rate in the league, which should assist with Perez’s meager whiff totals.

Tuesday, June 6
Juan Nicasio (PIT) vs. New York Mets
Ownership: 25%

Nicasio is a solid fantasy starter if utilized in the right matchups. He should be in a good spot on Tuesday against a Mets’ lineup that has struggled against right-handed pitching at times this season.

When facing righties, they are ranked just 27th in the league in batting average with a 23.3% strikeout rate, fifth-highest in the league. Nicasio isn’t without risk as the Mets do have talented hitters, but his strikeout upside should offset a few earned runs given up.

Wednesday, June 7
Jesse Hahn (OAK) @ Milwaukee Brewers
Ownership: 4%

Hahn has huge strikeout upside as this start comes against the current leader in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. The Brewers’ 26.7% rate should help Hahn add a few easy punchouts to his stat line in this start. Hahn has a 4.15 ERA and 14 strikeouts in his 30.1 innings of work this season.

Thursday, June 8
Nick Tropeano (LAA) @ New York Yankees
Ownership: 16%

Tropeano has been impressive this season, posting a 3.25 ERA and striking out almost a batter per inning pitched. He will take on the Yankees on Thursday in a matchup where he should be able to find success. The Yankees, on the season, are ranked 27th in wOBA, 19th in ISO and 29th in batting average.

Friday, June 9
C.C. Sabathia (NYY) vs. Detroit Tigers
Ownership: 31%

Sabathia has apparently found the Fountain of Youth this season as he’s all of a sudden pitching like vintage Sabathia. The big left-hander has posted two wins, a 2.85 ERA, and 40 strikeouts in 47.1 innings of work on the year. The Tigers can be a dangerous offense, but they are also susceptible to striking out, and Sabathia has shown he can still get a punchout when needed.

Saturday, June 10
Sean Manaea (OAK) @ Cincinnati Reds
Ownership: 6%

Manaea had the finest start of his young career this past Wednesday, pitching six innings of one-run ball while ringing up eight strikeouts. The talent is there with the big lefty, so hopefully that start is the beginning of him putting everything together at the major league level. The Reds are an average team when facing left-handed pitching this season, ranking 15th in batting average, 19th in wOBA and 15th in ISO.
