DraftKings Lineup Advice: Tuesday (7/26)

Ian Kinsler is part of a juicy Detroit Tigers stack tonight

Full slate on a Tuesday night and there are a lot of unique tournaments being held at DraftKings. Over half of the games have an over/under of 9.0 or more, likely making it a high-scoring night across the industry.

The Tigers at Red Sox have a massive 11.0 over/under. The only games that have an over/under below 8.0 are the Cardinals at Mets (7.5) and Rays at Dodgers (7.5). Marcus Stroman and the Blue Jays are the biggest favorite with the line currently sitting at -230.

Pitchers

Danny Salazar (CLE): $9,500 vs. WAS
Salazar grades out as my top ranked pitcher tonight and it isn’t even close. Salazar has finally put it all together and has figured out how to be an elite starter in the majors. Danny is having a career year with a 27.4% strikeout rate while holding batters to a .208 AVG.

The Nationals have the fourth lowest projected team total (TT) tonight at 3.75 and are somewhat overrated against right-handed pitching this season. They are merely an average team in ISO (.167), but are below-average in wOBA (.314) and wRC+ (93). Salazar is always a tournament option regardless of matchup due to his high strikeout upside.

Bud Norris (LAD): $6,300 vs. TB
Norris flashed his upside in his Dodger debut against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Unfortunately, Norris’ three opponents after that were tough, giving him mixed reviews in his short existence with the Dodgers. Norris has sneaky strikeout upside with a 26.0% strikeout rate since June and the Rays are prone to getting rung up against right-handed pitching. The Rays have the lowest projected TT tonight at 3.63 and Norris’ salary is a huge bargain for his matchup at home against the Rays. The Rays are a team you want to target against right-handed pitching with a below-average wOBA (.302) and wRC+ (90). They also lose their designated hitter under National League Rules.

Catcher

Jonathan Lucroy (MIL): $4,500 vs. ARI
Lucroy is just waiting to be told that he has been traded somewhere and he is completely fine with that as he would like to play for a contender. Lucroy will continue to mash and showcase himself until he is traded out of Milwaukee. Lucroy is crushing the ball at home with a .391 wOBA, 139 wRC+ and .258 ISO at Miller Park this season. Lucroy’s salary of $4,500 at the catcher position will surely keep his ownership low in all formats.

First Base

Miguel Cabrera (DET): $4,000 @ BOS
Miggy’s salary is down to $4,000 and he gets a park boost at Fenway Park. Cabrera can hit any type of pitcher including knuckleballers and the Tigers have the fourth-highest projected TT at 4.98. Miggy owns a .405 wOBA, 156 wRC+ and .250 ISO against right-handed pitching this season. Steven Wright is having an impressive season but I’m a firm believer that regression is knocking on his door. Vegas has this has the highest game total at 11.0 and Wright allows most of his hard hits (31.0%) to right-handed hitters.

Second Base

Ian Kinsler (DET): $4,400 @ BOS
Targeting leadoff hitters on the road in the highest projected game total is something you should do. If things go right they will likely get five at-bats, maximizing your point potential. Kinsler also provides home run and stolen base upside, making him a top option for me tonight.

Kinsler is punishing the ball this season with a .362 wOBA, 126 wRC+ and .211 ISO. As noted above, the Tigers have the fourth-highest projected TT (4.98) tonight. The Tigers have looked motivated and energetic out of the All-Star break, winning three of their last five games and are now only 5.5 back in the AL Central.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos (DET): $3,600 @ BOS
No surprise here, another Detroit Tiger. Nick Castellanos is only 24 years old and is having his breakout season right before our eyes. It was only a matter of time the talented third baseman put it all together to have an All-Star caliber season. Castellanos will hit fifth tonight behind Victor Martinez with an over/under of 11.0. the Tigers should have plenty of runners on base to be driven in. $3,600 is a discount given all of the circumstances in this game being played in Boston.

Shortstop

Manny Machado (BAL): $3,900 vs. COL
I’m not a huge fan of the shortstop position tonight and wasn’t able to pay up for the likes of Jonathan Villar or Xander Bogaerts. So I’ll have to settle for Manny Machado (never a bad thing). Machado is only $3,900 and the Orioles have the third highest projected TT tonight at 5.33. You should know by now that the “Macho Man” destroys any pitcher that takes the mound at his park in Baltimore. But if you aren’t aware, Machado is posting a .413 wOBA, 157 wRC+ and .271 ISO at home this season.

Outfield

Mookie Betts (BOS): $5,600 vs. DET
Ryan Braun (MIL): $5,300 vs. ARI
Justin Upton (DET): $2,900 @ BOS

Mookie Betts returned to the lineup yesterday after having his knee drained over the weekend. Betts ended up going 0-for-5 and likely upset anybody that paid him. Betts’ salary is the highest in the outfield at $5,600 and his recent knee issues could possibly keep his ownership at a reasonable percentage. Betts is a high risk, high reward play tonight that I have to get exposure to. Mookie Betts is leading off for Boston against Mike Pelfrey and the Red Sox have the highest projected TT at an absurd 6.02. Like my good friend Michael Drew always says, “keep it simple stupid”.

Ryan Braun continues to beast and continues to be low-owned when there is a decent amount of games on the slate. Tonight will be no different as majority of the public won’t pay $5,300 for Braun. His .455 wOBA, 186 wRC+, .237 ISO against left-handed pitching at home this season is elite. You’re going to want some of that success. Patrick Corbin is currently broken and his task won’t get any easier as his shift from Chase Field to Miller Park isn’t a huge upgrade for him. Corbin has been one of the worst starting pitchers in the month of July, owning a 6.70 FIP, 11.9% walk rate while allowing a hard hit rate of 42.3%.

Justin Upton is having an up-and-down first year with the Tigers. However, I’m not one that holds grudges and I have been fortunate enough not to let “JUp” burn me a whole lot this year. With only $2,900 available in salary, Upton makes for a perfect addition to a Tigers’ stack that already includes Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera and Nick Castellanos.
