FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (7/22)

Shoemaker’s price still hasn’t caught up to his total dominance

Friday is finally here! We have a full slate of games to attack as we head into the weekend. The weather looks to possibly be a huge thorn tonight in terms of planning, as it’s very hot and humid across much of the country, which could lead to storms popping up as the day unfolds. The humid weather also plays a big role in creating prime hitting environments, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see some inflated scoring tonight. With that, let’s look at a lineup for FanDuel.

Pitcher

Matt Shoemaker (LAA): $8,700 @ HOU
C’mon man! Shoemaker is coming off of a 78 fantasy point outing in which he struck out 13 hitters while tossing a complete game, yet he remains below the $9,000 mark. He will get a negative park environment in Houston, but he’s handled this lineup well through three starts this season (11 strikeouts, two runs; seven strikeouts, three runs; six strikeouts, zero runs). He will also be backed by an offense that is rolling right now. Hard contact is still a concern with Shoemaker, but the Astros do strike out 24% of the time against right-handed pitching, so the upside is there. I am not 100% comfortable here, but the price is too good to pass up given the strikeout upside.

Other Notables

Catcher

Russell Martin (TOR): $2,600 vs. SEA
James Paxton hasn’t been horrible against right-handed hitters (.296 wOBA), but he’s surrendering a ton of hard contact, which could lead to trouble against this lineup in Toronto. Martin provides cheap exposure to the Blue Jays, who currently have an implied team total over five runs.

Other Notables

First Base

Miguel Cabrera (DET): $3,700 @ CWS
Cabrera gets an elite hitting environment for right-handed power, while facing an underwhelming starter in Jacob Turner. Turner is not a high strikeout pitcher, and he’s allowed a whopping .394 wOBA to same-handed hitters in his last 69.1 innings pitched. The Tigers have an implied team total of 5.23 runs, so look for plenty of run-producing opportunities for Cabrera tonight.

Other Notables

Second Base

Daniel Murphy (WAS): $3,600 vs. SD
Murphy is underpriced considering his phenomenal season, especially with a juicy matchup on deck. Luis Perdomo has been awful this season, which has led to an implied team total of 5.49 runs for the Nationals. Lock Murphy into your lineups tonight as he’s in a good position to continue his fantastic play.

Other Notables

Third Base

Jake Lamb (ARI): $3,500 @ CIN
Lamb has been a great option at third base this season, and I look for him to continue his success tonight. The Diamondbacks face a fly ball pitcher in Dan Straily, so I’d expect some fireworks in a homer-friendly park. Lamb typically hits clean up, so there should be all sorts of opportunities to drive in runs tonight.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Trea Turner (WAS): $2,700 vs. SD
Turner has been all over the lineup recently, so be sure to check on the lineups as they are released. He’s still a viable value if he plays, as the Nationals should put up plenty of runs against the Padres. Shortstop is a good position to take advantage of some cheaper players, making Turner a solid option.

 Other Notables

Outfielders

Carlos Gonzalez (COL): $3,500 vs. ATL
Gonzalez will hold the platoon advantage over Julio Teheran tonight, who has allowed a .331 wOBA and 1.38 HR/9 to lefties since 2014. Gonzalez hit a home run last night, but his price curiously dropped $700. Take advantage of this soft salary tonight, especially given the prime weather conditions in Denver.

Billy Hamilton (CIN): $3,100 vs. ARI
Archie Bradley has been wild this season, walking 4.24 batters per nine innings. This should hopefully lead to some chances for Hamilton to get on base and flash his wheels. As always, he’s a threat to steal multiple bases, but getting on base is typically the problem.

Miguel Sano (MIN): $3,400 @ BOS
Fenway Park is a strong environment for right-handed hitters, and the wind looks to be blowing out to center field at first pitch. Eduardo Rodriguez is a fly ball pitcher, so this could lead to trouble given the weather. Sano has strong numbers in his young career against lefties, posting a .398 wOBA and .261 ISO, making him a great value tonight.
