Today’s FanDuel lineup advice will focus on the seven-game Thursday night slate of MLB action. Despite the smaller slate, there are a lot of good pitchers to choose from as well as a couple of pitchers to target hitters against.
As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time.

Pitcher
John Lackey (CHC) $8,600 vs CHW
Lackey has pitched well at home this season with a 2.84 ERA and .278 wOBA allowed while the White Sox rank in the bottom seven in the league in ISO, wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season. Lackey has also had some success against White Sox hitters and the wind appears to be blowing in at Wrigley Field. There are plenty of good pitching options tonight but I’ll pay down for Lackey so I can get some big bats into my lineup.
Other Notables
- Jose Fernandez (MIA): $11,800 vs STL
- Johnny Cueto (SF): $10,700 vs WAS
- Aaron Nola (PHI): $8,000 @ ATL
Catcher
Buster Posey (SF): $3,100 vs WAS
It is hard to go wrong with Posey when he is priced at just $3,100 especially on a slate with only seven games. Posey should start and hit in the middle of the Giants lineup against Nationals’ righty Tanner Roark who has given up more damage to righties than lefties this season.
Other Notables
- Cameron Rupp (PHI): $2,900 @ ATL
- Matt Wieters (BAL): $2,500 @ MIN
First Base
David Ortiz (BOS): $4,700 @ LAA
With the Red Sox playing against the Angels’ Jered Weaver tonight you need to get some exposure to their offense. There is no one better to get that exposure than with Ortiz who has a .459 wOBA and .381 ISO against righties this season.
Other Notables
- Chris Davis (BAL): $4,000 @ MIN
- Freddie Freeman (ATL): $3,300 vs PHI
Second Base
Jurickson Profar (TEX): $2,300 vs KC
Profar has batted near the top of the Rangers lineup the last couple of days. If he continues to hit near the top of the order again tonight, then he is a great cheap option. He is batting .319 against righties this season and will face Royals’ righty Yordano Ventura who has given up a .330 wOBA to lefties.
Other Notables
- Brian Dozier (MIN): $3,400 vs BAL
- Cesar Hernandez (PHI): $2,800 @ ATL
Third Base
Manny Machado (BAL): $3,800 @ MIN
There are not a lot of strong options at third base tonight so paying up a little for Machado who ranks as the top third basemen could give you an edge. Machado is riding a seven-game hitting streak including homering in his last game.
Other Notables
- Maikel Franco (PHI): $3,300 @ ATL
- Todd Frazier (CHW): $2,900 @ CHC
Shortstop
Alcides Escobar (KC): $2,400 @ TEX
In order to pay up for some of the Red Sox big bats tonight, you will need to find some value options. Escobar represents a decent, cheap option at a weak offensive position. He has been batting leadoff and could have a good shot to steal a base against Cole Hamels who has allowed 14 steals this season.
Other Notables
- Xander Bogaerts (BOS): $4,100 @ LAA
- Eduardo Nunez (MIN): $3,700 vs BAL
Outfielders
Mookie Betts (BOS): $4,500 @ LAA
Betts is a great play tonight batting leadoff for the high-powered Red Sox offense against Weaver. Over his last six games, Betts has hit .400 with eight extra-base hits while Weaver has allowed a .375 wOBA to righties this season.
Jackie Bradley Jr. (BOS): $3,200 @ LAA
Bradley completes the mini Red Sox stack tonight. After cooling off in June following his long hitting streak at the beginning of the season, Bradley has regained his stroke again in July batting .329. He has also hit righties for more power this season with a .283 ISO while Weaver has allowed 1.88 HR/9 to lefties this season.
Nomar Mazara (TEX): $2,400 vs KC
This spot in the lineup is reserved for whichever Rangers’ outfielder hits near the top of the lineup tonight between Mazara and Delino DeShields. I prefer Mazara if they are both hitting first and second respectively. Mazara has hit righties well this season with a .349 wOBA.
Other Notables
- Ian Desmond (TEX): $4,200 vs KC
- Odubel Herrera (PHI): $3,800 @ ATL
- Giancarlo Stanton (MIA): $3,600 vs STL
- Adam Jones (BAL): $3,500 @ MIN
- Bryce Harper (WAS): $3,200 @ SF
- Delino DeShields (TEX): $2,300 vs KC
