What to Watch For

A matchup of young aces Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals and Noah Syndergaard of the Mets will be the featured contest on Monday’s slate. Martinez has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine appearances and has a quality start in eight of his last nine outings to drive his ERA down to 2.83 this season. Syndergaard has only pitched 10 1/3 innings over his last two starts and has allowed three or more runs in three of his last five appearances, but he still has a 2.43 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 111 1/3 innings this season. Jake ArrietaDrew Pomeranz, and Aaron Sanchez will also pitch today.
