After an odd schedule due to the All-Star break, we are in back in gear with the two start pitcher rankings. This week offers an interesting slate with few elite options but plenty of players to stream based on their matchup. Here is a breakdown of each two-start pitcher (except those that have yet to be announced by their team) and why they are or are not a good play this week.

Must Start

Arrieta will be just fine. Syndergaard may not be fine but the upside is way too much to sit him. It’s possible that Sanchez won’t make both of these starts but if he does, they should be enjoyed. The numbers may not blow you away on their face, but Martinez has been incredibly reliable this season.

High End

Corbin’s numbers certainly don’t paint a pretty picture but the matchups work in his favor and he has been a better pitcher on the road. The matchups aren’t ideal but Tillman has shown himself to be trustworthy this season. Wright isn’t quite as unhittable as he was at the beginning of the season but it’s difficult to doubt him at this point.

The matchups show the potential for an unkind week for Hendricks, but he hasn’t allowed a run post All-Star break. DeSclafani has been solid in his return from injury. Verlander has been on a tear but those matchups are difficult.

Keuchel has gotten it together in his past several starts and neither of the lineups he faces crush lefties. The matchups this week give Santana a boost. Hellickson has been unspectacular but consistent, and that counts for something.

One bad start isn’t enough for me to panic on Pomeranz. We’ve seen a lot of “good” Santiago in the past few weeks and these matchups aren’t as bad as one would initially think.

Low End

Harrell isn’t worth getting excited about but the matchups aid him this week to make him relevant in deeper leagues. Shields has settled in nicely with the White Sox but the strikeouts still aren’t there, which makes him risky. It’s been mostly good for Kennedy this season but the constant threat of him allowing multiple home runs puts a damper on things.

Eickhoff has gotten rocked in a few of his recent starts, but one was at Coors and these matchups could bring some relief. Chen is good for deep leagues but not worth the risk otherwise.

Road starts haven’t been kind to Garcia but these matchups could balance that out. Gonzalez has righted the ship to some degree and neither of his matchups hit lefties well.
