5 Wide Receivers with High Floors (Fantasy Football)

5 Wide Receivers with High Floors (Fantasy Football)
Keenan Allen

Keenan Allen should see all the targets he can handle yet again

With draft season upon us, the most experienced drafters are putting in the preparation to build championship contending fantasy teams. This ground work includes looking for potential breakout players, value picks and deep sleepers, as well as finalizing draft strategy. A draft strategy that I have been successful with is drafting players with high floors. Typically, I shy away from boom-or-bust players and target players that will give me consistent production throughout the year. Players with a high floor give owners dependable points each week with the added benefit of a possible score or two and rarely deliver the dreaded single-digit fantasy points line.

Here is a list of high-floored WRs to target in your upcoming draft (outside the Big 3 of Antonio Brown, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham).

A.J. Green (CIN): ADP 10, WR5
Though Green is arguably in the elite WR tier I’ll include him on this list because I really like him, and he’s often overlooked. The Bengals lost Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu to free agency and Tyler Eifert to injury this offseason. That’s a ton of targets up for grabs, and I think that Andy Dalton will throw to his most reliable receiver early and often. As a result, Green should finish the season with over 150 targets, making him even more valuable in PPR leagues.

I would be more comfortable drafting Green in the early second round in PPR leagues, and teaming him up with RB Lamar Miller or WR Dez Bryant.

Jordy Nelson (GB): ADP 17, WR8
Nelson missed the entire 2015 season due to a torn ACL, resulting in a Packers’ offense that at times looked lethargic. The year before the injury, Jordy posted career-best numbers for catches (98), yards (1,519) and touchdowns (13). It remains to be seen if Nelson will be able to put up elite numbers again, but having an elite QB in Aaron Rodgers will help. Rodgers uses Nelson as a security blanket and their back-shoulder-throw connection is practically unstoppable. With the return of Nelson, the Packers’ offense should return to an elite level.

I’m glad to see Jordy’s ADP climbing into the late part of the second round compared to his early summer ADP of late first or early second round, which I thought was a reach.

Keenan Allen (SD): ADP 26, WR12
Allen was having a monster season until a lacerated kidney ended his year in Week 8. Before getting hurt, Allen caught 67 passes for 725 yards and four TDs. He is clearly the top receiver in San Diego and Philip Rivers‘ favorite target. Rivers targeted him at least 10 times in five out of eight games last season. Also, the Chargers’ defense has looked awful this preseason, which means the team could be in a lot of shootouts and will be forced to throw.

Allen is a steal at his current ADP. I would pass on Nelson at his current ADP and target Allen as my No. 2 WR.

Jarvis Landry (MIA): ADP 44, WR21
Landry finished last season with only four TDs but still ended the year as the No. 19 WR in standard leagues. Landry’s greater value is in PPR leagues where his 111 catches were third behind only Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. The Dolphins new head coach, Adam Gase, wants the offense to run at a much faster tempo than last season which gives Landry a good chance of surpassing his 166 targets from 2015.

Landry is a good WR to target if you take Gronk or a QB in the first three rounds. I would draft Landry as my No. 2 WR in PPR leagues.

Marvin Jones (DET): ADP 96, WR37
Jones signed with the Lions this offseason after the surprise retirement of Calvin Johnson. The situation in Detroit is the perfect circumstance for Jones to have a career year. The Lions have one of the easier schedules in the league and don’t have a consistent run game. There is no clear-cut No. 1 WR in Detroit and Jones could easily take over the spot voided by Megatron.

Jones has looked great so far this preseason. let the others in your draft pick Golden Tate in the sixth round and target Jones around round eight.
