Kris Bryant has been on a terror and should continue it tonight

We are just about wrapping up August and pre-season football is in full gear, but there is also plenty of baseball left to play and we have 30 teams taking the field Tuesday night. Here are some picks for your FanDuel lineups:

Pitcher

Jake Arrieta (CHC): $11,000 @SDP
Boy, it is a rough looking slate of starting pitchers for this Tuesday night. Most have an ERA over 4.00 and some are even pushing over 5.00, so this is one of those nights where I’m going with the obvious choices. If you want to throw Madison Bumgarner and Jake Arrieta in a hat and just draw one, that will probably work. If you are looking for a tie-breaker, then consider these three factors: #1. Jake Arrieta is facing the Padres, a team on the brink of tumbling into last place in the National League West . #2. Petco Park has made some modifications, but it still favors pitching for the most part, and #3. Jake’s opponent, Christian Friedrich, is 4-9 with an ERA sitting at 4.69. He will be going up against a first place Cubs’ lineup that can be dangerous through and through. We could see enough insurance runs here to secure Mr. Arrieta a win here and big points for you.

First Base

Joey Votto (CIN): $3,600 vs. TEX
Remember that scene in “Moneyball” when the staff questioned the reasoning for a player selection and Brad Pitt (Billy Beane) pointed to Jonah Hill (Peter Brand) and he says, “because he gets on base.” Well, I’m pointing to Joey Votto. After a slow start, Votto has been killing it. In August, Votto is batting .422 with a .506 OBP, not to mention he is the current MLB leader in OBP. “But he’s facing a lefty,” you say. No worries, though Votto is hitting .317 vs. right-handed pitching, he is stilling batting .280 against lefties…not too shabby. And let’s consider Derek Holland for a moment who is coming off the DL and hasn’t pitched a game since June 20 (big surprise there). Prior to his DL stint, Holland was 5-5 with a 5.20 ERA and lasted an average of 5.1 innings per games pitched (that’s a lot of 5s). So, most likely, by the fifth inning (or sooner considering it’s his first game in awhile) we will see the Ranger’s bullpen in action. I like Votto’s chances as well in front of hometown fans in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark.

Other Notables

Second Base

Jean Segura (ARI): $3,600 vs. ATL
Is it safe to say this is a breakout season for Jean Segura? He is batting .318 on the year, a tough feat alone. The D-backs will face this experimenting Atlanta Braves team who is rebuilding and testing the waters for next season. Rob Whalen is part of that experiment. The right-hander holds a 5.73 ERA in the four games he has pitched this season. Though, his last outing was his best yet, (1.50 ERA over six innings) Chase Field tends to be a tough park for pitchers. In his last seven games, Segura is batting .481 with 13 hits, five RBI and five steals. He is hitting right-handers at a .326 stint and is batting .328 at home. I’m on board. What about you?

Other Notables

Third Base

Kris Bryant (CHC): $4,300 @SDP
Reason #4 on why Jake Arrieta will win tonight—Kris Bryant. The Cubs star third basemen is batting .373 with 15 RBI in the month of August. Eleven of those RBI came in the last seven games. Despite Petco Park, you can count on this Cubs team led by Kris Bryant to backup their star pitcher, especially heading into the stretch and playoff season. Lock him in!

Other Notables

Shortstop

Francisco Lindor (CLE): $3,500 @OAK
The Cleveland Indians are another team headed for the playoffs. They are seven games ahead of the Tigers in first place and part of the reason is their shortstop phenom, Francisco Lindor. Oakland’s Sean Manaea has had a bumpy debut season. In his last outing, he surrendered five hits over six innings. Lindor likes hitting the lefties. He is batting .325 on the season against southpaws and has been hot over this past week, batting .379 with 11 hits. With Danny Salazar on the mound in Oakland, you can count on Lindor to get on base and score some runs for the Tribe.

Other Notables

Outfield

J.D. Martinez (DET): 3,800 @MIN
August has been kind to J.D. Martinez as the Tigers try to close the gap with the Indians in the American League Central. Martinez has 30 hits, seven doubles and 11 RBI for the month of August so far. He is hitting .625 in his last seven games alone. Tonight he will face Kyle Gibson who he has limited history with. In the 19 times Martinez has faced Gibson, he knocked eight hits and blasted two homers off him. Ride the J.D. wave while it’s high.

David Dahl (COL): 3,500 @MIL
Another rookie to watch this season is David Dahl of the Rockies. His price is already rising in DFS and with good reason. He is batting .324 over his last 102 at-bats with 33 hits and 25 runs. Plus, as you’ve seen yesterday, he can steal a few bags. He enters another hitter-friendly park in Milwaukee and faces righty Chase Anderson who has been up-and-down all season. Dahl is hitting .321 off of right-handers and he is looking to keep his spot in the Rockies outfield for years to come.

Lorenzo Cain (KAS): $3,400 @MIA
The World Series Champions are barely keeping their head above .500 this month and they need to step up their game if they want to see post-season action this year. One guy who has stepped it up as of late is Lorenzo Cain. Cain is hitting .300 with 15 hits and 12 RBI over his last 30 games. He goes into Miami red-hot 10-for-24 over this past week. Andrew Cashner‘s year was a let down for fantasy players. He is 4-9 with a 4.92 ERA, though his last outing was decent (one earned run over five innings). In this match-up, though, I have to go with Cain.
