Franklin Gutierrez is the ultimate lefty-smasher

Welcome to the Friday edition of the FanDuel value plays advice. We have a full, 15-game slate tonight. Right now, there are several locations that could potentially see some rain/thunderstorms (BOS at DET, WAS at ATL, OAK at CHW, MIN at KC and CHC at COL), so be sure to keep an eye out on these locations before locking any of the players into your lineup tonight. Let’s go ahead and take a look at some value players for tonight.

Pitcher

Adam Wainwright (STL): $8,500 at PHI
I’ll probably be paying up for Johnny Cueto or Zack Greinke for cash games. However, in GPPs I may use Adam Wainwright against the Phillies. The Phillies have been better recently, but they still only have an 82 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season. Also, the Cardinals are currently decent favorites at -169 and should have no problem giving Wainwright enough run support against Adam Morgan.

Catcher

Gary Sanchez (NYY): $2,700 vs. NYY
Gary Sanchez has been scorching lately with a 0.528 wOBA and a 0.447 ISO over the past 14 days. Tonight he has a great matchup against Jered Weaver, who has been awful against right-handed hitters allowing a 0.373 wOBA.

First Base

Dae-Ho Lee (SEA): $2,400 vs. MIL
Dae-Ho Lee has been cold lately, but he has really enjoyed hitting at home at Safeco Field with a 0.389 wOBA and a 0.288 ISO. He should have a decent matchup against Brent Suter, who is making his first big league start for the Brewers.

Second Base

Jake Elmore (MIL): $2,100 at MIL
You know it is not a great night for value at second base if I am recommending Jake Elmore. If for whatever reason you decide not to pay up at second base, Elmore may be worth a shot. His spot in the order will not do him any favors, but he has hit left-handed pitchers well this season with a 0.340 wOBA in a small sample size of 40 plate appearances.

Third Base

Jedd Gyorko (STL): $2,900 at PHI
Jedd Gyorko has had a great second half so far with a 0.373 wOBA and a 0.333 ISO. All of the Cardinals’ right-handed hitters are in play tonight against Adam Morgan who has been horrendous this season. Against righties, Morgan has allowed a 0.403 wOBA and a 2.38 HR/9

Shortstop

Orlando Arcia (MIL): $2,600 at SEA
Although it is a small sample size, Orlando Arcia has done well against lefties since being called up in early August. Arcia typically hits in the two-hole for the Brewers and tonight he has a superb matchup against Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc has been awful against right-handed hitters this season allowing a 0.370 wOBA and a 2.48 HR/9.

Outfielders

Franklin Gutierrez (SEA): $2,700 vs. MIL
Another cheap, Mariners’ left-handed bat who we can use against Suter is Franklin Gutierrez. Gutierrez is a proven, lefty smasher with a 0.375 wOBA and a 0.234 ISO in 165 plate appearances this season. On top of that, he typically hits in a premium spot of the order in the two-hole.

Tommy Pham (STL): $2,400 at PHI
I already mentioned how we can pick on Morgan and Tommy Pham is another Cardinals’ righty who we can use. Pham has been excellent against left-handed hitters this season with a 0.347 wOBA and a 0.298 ISO.

Melky Cabrera (CHW): $2,900 vs. OAK
Melky Cabrera is having a quiet, yet productive season this year for the White Sox. Cabrera has been hitting in the three-hole lately and has done well against right-handed pitchers with a  0.327 wOBA. Tonight he has a solid matchup against Kendall Graveman, who has allowed a 0.351 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season.
