Gary Sanchez has been putting huge exit velocities on the ball lately

Welcome to another Tuesday edition of FanDuel MLB Value Plays. I hope this has helped you when looking for some cheaper players with upside. FanDuel is offering some nice contests tonight, including the $600k MLB Super Monster with a $300 entry that will reward first place with a cool $100k. These should be some fun contests for sure, and these picks should help you round out your lineups. Let’s get to the picks!

PITCHERS

Anibal Sanchez (DET): $6,900 @ MIN
It is always fun to look at some of these options under $7k because every once in awhile, you catch a break and one of these guys puts together a good outing. Sanchez has more than one good outing under his belt lately and is priced right for a matchup against a Twins team that is still struggling to hit right-handed pitching. He will carry a low ownership because he is Anibal Sanchez after all, but he’s shown some upside, going over 45 in two out of his last three outings. He is not cash game playable, but makes for an interesting tournament option with some pretty nice upside.

Other Options

Reynaldo Lopez (WAS) – $7,000 @ BAL
Ivan Nova (PIT) – $6,700 vs. HOU

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez (NYY): $2,800 @ SEA
I cannot believe how good Gary Sanchez has been in his first go-around in the big leagues. His price is far too low for a guy doing what he is doing out there. There is no question in my mind we are looking at a star in the making, and we need to take advantage of these bargain bin prices while we can. Hisashi Iwakuma is not a bad pitcher, but he isn’t one that we want to deliberately avoid either. I like Sanchez’s chances of having a nice night tonight.

Other Options

Sandy Leon (BOS) – $2,800 @ TAM
Luke Maile (TAM) – $2,400 vs. BOS

FIRST BASE

Kendrys Morales (KAN): $2,800 @ MIA
Morales is a guy that can put up those huge fantasy games that wins tournaments. Unfortunately, he is also a guy who is likely to give you three or less much of the time. These articles are aimed at tournaments, so this is exactly the type of player we are looking for. Andrew Cashner has been known to give up some pretty big games, so he is certainly on my radar today as a guy who is likely to be low owned by has the upside to put a nice chunk of cash in your pockets.

Other Options

Tommy Joseph (PHI) – $2,700 @ CWS
Justin Morneau (CWS) – $2,700 vs. PHI

SECOND BASE

Jace Peterson (ATL): $2,800 @ ARI
Unfortunately right now, it is unknown as to whether or not Peterson will be able to take the field tomorrow night. He was scratched on Monday for undisclosed reasons, which is not always the greatest thing. I still want to mention him, though, as the matchup here against Archie Bradley is a good one. The Braves get a park bump as they travel to Chase Field and I think there is a pretty good chance they put some runs up on the board tonight. Bradley has a rough go against left-handed bats, so Peterson is a pretty cheap option that could really pay off in a big way tonight if he plays.

Other Options

Jose Peraza (CIN) – $2,700 vs. TEX
Tim Beckham (TAM) – $2,700 vs. BOS

THIRD BASE

Wilmer Flores (NYM): $2,500 @ STL
There is no question that Flores can be a frustrating player, as he has been in some pretty good matchups in the last few weeks and has returned little if nothing. That won’t change my direction today, as I think that Flores is one of the better tournament plays at the position tonight. I don’t buy Jaime Garcia as a great pitcher, or even a good one, and I think that some of the right-handers, including Flores, can take advantage of him here. He makes for a great tournament pivot in lineups with either bigger bats, higher priced pitching or both.

Other Options

Danny Valencia (OAK) – $2,800 vs. CLE
Jorge Polanco (MIN) – $2,700 vs. DET

SHORTSTOP

Daniel Descalso (COL): $2,800 @ MIL
Descalso is a good hitter, and he’s a good baseball player, but it doesn’t really translate well to him being a good fantasy player. At the same time, he’s got a pretty safe floor in this contest, and he has a really nice price for a team that I do think will be one of the higher scoring offenses on the night. This puts him in a position where he makes a nice cash game play so that you can get a bigger bat or a higher priced pitcher into your lineup.

Other Options

J.J. Hardy (BAL) – $2,200 vs. WAS
Dansby Swanson (ATL) – $2,500 @ ARI

OUTFIELDERS

Justin Ruggiano (NYM): $2,700 @ STL
This now makes two Mets that we’ve highlighted as being good matchups against Jaime Garcia. I have a feeling that the Mets are going to have themselves in a nice night tonight. This would only be Ruggiano’s third start back in the big leagues, but he has been pretty good in those starts. I like the upside here, and he makes an excellent tournament play tonight.

Kike Hernandez (LOS): $2,300 vs. SFG
This pick is for all the BvP truthers out there. Hernandez has absolutely owned Bumgarner this year, including a two home run outing earlier in the year, which helped yours truly take down a few tournaments. Otherwise, he has not been a very good baseball player at all. I’m willing to take that risk in a few lineups because he really does seem to get Bumgarner.

Brandon Guyer (CLE): $2,500 @ OAK
Guyer made it into this same slot last week and had a nice outing that definitely paid off his price. Tonight, he goes up against Sean Manaea, in a contest that should certainly see a handful of runs scored. I would assume he would be in the lineup. That is why the Indians traded for him after all. He’s got a ton of upside at this price and is one of my favorite tournament plays on the night.

Other Options

Nolan Reimold (BOS) – $2,300 vs. WAS
Nick Markakis (ATL) – $3,000 @ ARI
Tommy Pham (STL) – $2,400 vs. NYM
Teoscar Hernandez (HOU) – $3,000 @ PIT
Matt Joyce (PIT) – $2,100 vs. HOU
