Luke Weaver

Luke Weaver is coming off his best start of thes season and sees another favorable matchup this week

Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for pitchers who are less than 30% owned and could be useful streamers for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo.

Please note the probable pitcher matchups could change throughout the week due to rainouts or other circumstances, so be sure to check back before picking up and starting one of these recommendations. All ownership percentages and statistics are current as of Friday, August 26.

Sunday, August 28
Archie Bradley (ARI) vs. Cincinnati Reds
(Ownership: 9%)

Bradley is working his way through an up-and-down season this year, sporting a 5.06 ERA but 101 strikeouts in 105 innings of work. He does draw a favorable matchup on Sunday as the Reds have been below-average against right-handed pitching this season. Most of Bradley’s struggles this season have come against left-handed batters, but the Reds lineup leans mostly right-handed outside of Joey Votto. This should aid Bradley in run-prevention on Sunday.

Monday, August 29
Matt Boyd (DET) vs. Chicago White Sox
(Ownership: 28%)

Boyd has been pitching really well of late, posting a 3.98 ERA and 64 strikeouts over 74.2 innings of work. It is hard to say whether Boyd’s hot streak will continue, but he draws a favorable opponent on Monday. He will take on a White Sox team that isn’t all that fearsome against left-handed pitching, ranking 22nd in wOBA and 24th in ISO against left-handed pitching this season.

Tuesday, August 30
Kendall Graveman (OAK) @ Houston Astros
(Ownership: 17%)

Graveman has been on fire lately, allowing just one run over his past two starts. The young right-hander doesn’t strike many batters out, but he should see an uptick in that category when facing the free-swinging Astros. Graveman will carry a 3.97 ERA and 87 strikeouts into this start against Houston.

Wednesday, August 31
Luke Weaver (STL) @ Milwaukee Brewers
(Ownership: 15%)

Weaver is coming off of his best big league start, holding the A’s to one run over six innings while striking out seven. The rookie right-hander is now up to 13 strikeouts in his past two starts as he’s starting to acclimate himself to the major leagues. He draws a favorable matchup against a Brewers offense that has struggled against right-handed pitching. On the year, Milwaukee is 21st in wOBA while leading the league with a 25.4% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Weaver has an outside chance at double-digit strikeouts in this outing.

Thursday, September 1
Jarred Cosart (SD) @ Atlanta Braves
(Ownership: 2%)

There are only four games scheduled on Thursday, making the pickings slim as far as streamers go. You could also look at Braves starter Joel De La Cruz, but the Padres have been feisty against right-handed pitching as of late. Atlanta is ranked 29th in wOBA and ISO when there’s a right-handed pitcher on the mound.

Friday, September 2
Mike Foltynewicz (ATL) @ Philadelphia Phillies
(Ownership: 7%)

Foltynewicz has picked up his game in recent weeks as he’s posted a 4.37 ERA/3.50 FIP and racked up 21 strikeouts over his past 22.2 innings of work. He will draw a plus matchup on Friday when he squares off against a Phillies offense that is just 27th in the league in wOBA and 17th in ISO. He’s a solid option who has shown he has decent strikeout upside in the right matchups.

Saturday, September 3
Eduardo Rodriguez (BOS) @ Oakland Athletics
(Ownership: 23%)

Rodriguez has gotten better as the season has gone on, posting a 2.52 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 39.1 innings, a span which covers his past seven starts. He will take on an Athletics offense that has not been very good against southpaws this season. Rodriguez will also enjoy a great park boost as he will travel to spacious Oakland Coliseum for this outing. Backed by one of the top offenses in the league, Rodriguez is a good bet for a win anytime he steps on the mound.
