Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 21

Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 21
Homer Bailey

Homer Bailey has been solid since being activated from the disabled list

Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for pitchers who are less than 30% owned and could be useful streamers for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo.

Please note the probable pitcher matchups could change throughout the week due to rainouts or other circumstances, so be sure to check back before picking up and starting one of these recommendations. All ownership percentages and statistics are current as of Friday, August 19.

Sunday, August 21
Martin Perez (TEX) @ Tampa Bay Rays
(Ownership: 12%)

Perez is coming off two straight great starts, holding the Rockies to one run in 5.2 innings and following that up with a seven-inning, two-run outing against the A’s. He should be able to continue his hot streak against the Rays on Sunday. He gets a big park boost pitching in Tampa Bay instead of his hitter-friendly home park which helps his cause greatly. While Tampa has good stats against left-handed pitching this season, they aren’t the same team after shipping out lefty-mashers Brandon Guyer and Steve Pearce.

Monday, August 22
Homer Bailey (CIN) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
(Ownership: 30%)

Bailey, aside from one start, has been excellent since returning from the DL. He will carry a 3.66 ERA and 27 strikeouts over 19.2 innings of work into his start against the Dodgers on Monday. While the Dodgers have been hot at the plate lately, Bailey has shown he has a good deal of strikeout upside when he’s on.

Tuesday, August 23
Archie Bradley (ARI) vs. Atlanta Braves
(Ownership: 9%)

Bradley, a former first-round draft pick, has yet to translate his potential into success on the mound. That being said, he has one of the easiest matchups a right-handed pitcher can get as he will face off against the Braves. Atlanta is in the bottom 10 in the league in wOBA, ISO, and batting average when facing right-handed pitching.

Wednesday, August 24
Tyler Anderson (COL) @ Milwaukee Brewers
(Ownership: 19%)

Anderson, a rookie, has been impressive in his first big league action this season. The young southpaw has even found a way to tame fearsome Coors Field thus far, posting a 3.04 ERA in 50.1 home innings. Anderson has a decent strikeout rate and tends to keep the ball on the ground, which has helped him pitch effectively in hitter-friendly environs. The Brewers are solid against left-handers, but they do have the third-highest strikeout rate in the league.

Thursday, August 25
Robbie Ray (ARI) vs. Atlanta Braves
(Ownership: 25%)

The ineptness of the Braves against right-handed pitching was mentioned above in the Archie Bradley section, but Atlanta isn’t any better against left-handed pitchers. On the year, the Braves rank last in ISO and wOBA when there’s  a southpaw on the mound. Ray doesn’t always do a great job in the run prevention department, but if nothing else you know he will provide strikeouts whenever he takes the mound. The southpaw has an impressive 161 punchouts in 133 innings of work on the season.

Friday, August 26
Daniel Norris (DET) vs. Los Angeles Angels
(Ownership: 6%)

Norris has been solid since being recalled to the big league club, allowing just one run in each of his two starts. He will get a decent matchup against the Angels on Friday as Los Angeles is ranked 13th in wOBA but just 23rd in ISO when facing left-handed pitching.

Saturday, August 27
Chase Anderson (MIL) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
(Ownership: 4%)

The streaming options under 30% owned aren’t great for Saturday, but if you really feel the need to pick up a streamer, Anderson could be useful. The Pirates have secretly been kind of below average against right-handed pitching this season, ranking 20th in the league in wOBA and 26th in ISO. It remains to be seen if Anderson can take advantage of the matchup, but if nothing else he should be fresh as he only pitched one inning in his last outing before leaving after taking a line drive off his leg.
