Jaime Garcia has been bad latley, but has a killer matchup today

Monday brings us 10 game schedule as we head into the final few days of September. This is the final week of the regular season, so be sure to get some action while you still can. Let’s take a look at a tournament lineup for FanDuel.

Pitcher

Jaime Garcia (STL): $7,300 vs. CIN
Garcia faces a Cincinnati team that rates poorly against left-handed pitching, and they are getting a park downgrade. The Reds have an implied team total of 3.84 runs, with Garcia currently a -190 favorite. The veteran southpaw does a good job generating ground balls (57% GB rate), and he has an xFIP (3.74) that doesn’t line up with his actual ERA (4.59). Look for Garcia to put forth a solid fantasy line tonight.

Other Notables

Catcher

Gary Sanchez (NYY): $4,100 @ TOR
Sanchez is my top option at catcher tonight, as he is in an elite hitting environment against a left-handed pitcher. J.A. Happ has allowed a lot of hard contact to right-handed hitters, which has left him vulnerable to power. It’s been all of 14 at-bats since Sanchez’s last home run, and I will boldly predict that changes tonight.

Other Notables

First Base

Chris Carter (MIL): $3,800 @ TEX
Carter will hold the platoon advantage over Martin Perez, who struggles against right-handed hitters. While Perez lives off of groundballs, he struggles to miss bats overall. Carter is a fly ball hitter, which meshes well against a pitcher with a profile like Perez.

Other Notables

Second Base

Dee Gordon (MIA): $2,700 vs. NYM
The Marlins will host the Mets with heavy hearts tonight, as they attempt to recover from the devastating loss of pitcher Jose Fernandez. While there’s no quantifiable evidence of the impact emotions can play in an athlete’s performance (good or bad), I have to remain as objective as possible. Gordon is underpriced yet again given his speed, and he makes for a strong source of salary relief atop this lineup as a result.

Other Notables

Third Base

Adrian Beltre (TEX): $3,400 vs. MIL
Beltre is rolling right now, and he will face a battering ram in Matt Garza tonight. Garza is allowing all sorts of hard contact, and he’s not missing many bats (6.30 K/9). Beltre is a great buy given his recent run, and I expect plenty of chances for him to produce tonight.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Addison Russell (CHC): $2,200 @ PIT
Russell is a viable punt play at shortstop tonight, as he typically hits fifth in the order as part of a strong overall offense. While Chad Kuhl has been much tougher on right-handed hitters, albeit in a small sample, I love saving some salary at this position in lineup construction tonight.

 Other Notables

Outfielders

Mike Trout (LAA): $4,500 vs. OAK
Part of the reason that I chose to save at shortstop is that I wanted to get Trout into the lineup. While Sean Manaea has pitched much better over the final two months of the season, he’s still been vulnerable to power (seven home runs allowed over that span). Trout is an elite option on a daily basis, and this is a good spot for him to produce at home.

Corey Dickerson (TB): $3,300 @ CWS
The Rays get a good park shift in their favor, and they will face James Shields, who continues to struggle. Shields has allowed 1.65 HR/9 to lefties this season, and he’s not fooling anyone at the plate (6.51 K/9). Dickerson is enjoying a solid month of September, and he’s in a good position to continue that tonight.

Carlos Gomez (TEX): $3,300 vs. MIL
The Rangers have the highest implied team total of the slate, making Gomez an attractive option as the leadoff hitter. I already picked on Matt Garza, so I won’t belabor the fact that I have zero faith in him to slow down this offense.
