FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (9/13)

Didi is hitting over .300 against lefties this season

Only a few more weeks left in the regular season, but plenty of DFS action to get to. No day games to be worried about as all 30 teams are in action Tuesday night. It’s that time of year where the player pool is larger and there are a lot of unfamiliar names to choose from. Let’s get right down to your FanDuel picks for Tuesday.

Pitcher

Danny Duffy (KAS): $9,600 vs. OAK
Danny Duffy has been pretty solid this season. Though he gave up two earned runs against the Twins last outing, he also struck out 10. He is 11-2 with a 3.13 ERA and he is matched-up against the A’s in Kansas City. When it comes the getting hits and scoring runs against left-handed pitching, Oakland ranks in the bottom half. Speaking of the bottom, the A’s are also dead last in the American League West and 24 games out of first. After holding batters to a .209 average in the month of August, I expect Duffy to turn September around starting with the A’s.

Other Notables

Catcher

Welington Castillo (ARI): $2,900 vs. COL
The don’t call him “Beef” for nothing. Welington Castillo can slug with the best. He ranks right below Buster Posey in RBI for a catcher. Castillo is batting .301 with seven of his 13 home runs coming off of left-handed pitching. Tonight he will bat against Jorge De La Rosa who brings his 5.00 ERA to another great hitting ballpark at Arizona’s Chase Field. Castillo has some history facing De La Rosa, he is batting .421 with eight hits in 19 at-bats lifetime vs. the southpaw.

Other Notables

First Base

Mike Napoli (CLE): $3,700 @CWS
Mike Napoli had a sweet August hitting .303 with five homers. He has been struggling so far in September, but there is a few reasons why things could start looking up for the switch hitter. First off, he hits better against lefties. Napoli knocked seven homers and is batting .283 off of southpaws this season. He will face Jose Quintana who gave up four earn runs his last time out. Secondly, Napoli likes hitting in U.S. Cellular Field. He has a .333 average against White Sox’ pitchers there, so let’s see if the Nap can snap this current slump and do some damage in Chicago.

Other Notables

Second Base

Brian Dozier (MIN): $3,700 @DET
Brian Dozier has been raking it lately, yet he is the No. 5 second baseman in the FanDuel rankings for today. Why? Who knows? Dozier is hitting .308 with four homers over his last seven games. He has 15 home runs in his last 30 games. If that doesn’t gain you more respect in DFS, I’m not sure what will. Left-hander Matt Boyd will take the mound in Detroit and Dozier is 2-for-8 with a homer off of Boyd in a small sample. But, in a large sample, Dozier is batting .297 with 10 bombs and 35 hits off left-handed pitchers this season. I don’t see a reason not to use him in your lineups tonight over the top-four second base picks.

Other Notables

Third Base

Alex Bregman (HOU): $3,600 vs. TEX
Well, one of the many new names floating around the MLB is Alex Bregman of the Astros. He made his debut at the end of July and has been pretty solid with 10 hits, eight RBI and a steal in his last seven appearances. It will be a Texas showdown with A.J. Griffin on the hill for the Rangers. Griffin got knocked around his last time out, surrendering eight earned runs in just four innings work. Bregman can free up some salary as well.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Didi Gregorious (NYY): $2,900 vs. LOS
Another option for even more salary relief is Didi Gregorious. Not the most exciting player in DFS, Gregorious is usually low-owned. But, he has a .311 batting average this season against lefties and will oppose the Dodgers’ rookie Julio Urias. Didi has 37 hits and 21 RBI vs. left-handed pitching and also has 17 homers on the season which may be a surprise to some. If you are looking for bigger bat options at first and third, then save some cash with Didi at short.

Other Notables

Outfielders

Charlie Blackmon (COL): $4,200 @ARI
With a .322 average against left-handed pitching, I can’t see not paying up for Charlie Blackmon teeing off in Chase Field vs. Robbie Ray. Here is some more incentive, Blackmon is batting .588 off of Ray lifetime with 10 hits and five RBI in just 17 at-bats. Ray also has a 5.02 ERA at home this season, just in case you need some more fuel for the fire.

Stephen Piscotty (STL): $3700 vs. CHC
This is Piscotty’s time to shine vs. NL Central rivals the Cubs. Piscotty has some decent numbers in a small sample against Jason Hammel (3-for-8), but more importantly, Piscotty has been picking up the pace over his last seven games batting .368 with seven hits and six RBI. He also has 13 homers in front of hometown Cardinal fans.

Kevin Kiermaier (TAM): $3,700 @TOR
Another hot bat this past week has been Kevin Kiermaier batting .435 with 10 hits, five RBI and four homers. Toronto’s Marcus Stroman has given up more home runs (11) when facing left-handed bats than righties. He also has an ERA close to 5.00 at home. I’m on board with Kevin!
