NFL FanDuel Value Plays: Week 2

NFL FanDuel Value Plays: Week 2
Sterling Shepard

Sterling Shepard (87) and the Giants’ WRs figure to be popular DFS targets this week

Welcome to the Week 2 edition of the FanDuel value plays. Since the Week 1 salaries were released so far in advance, value options will not be nearly as prevalent as they were in Week 1. With that being said, there are still some really nice value options for us to choose in Week 2. Let’s go ahead and dive into my favorite value options for Week 2.

Quarterback

Carson Wentz (PHI): $6,900 at CHI
Wentz looked solid in his NFL debut in Week 1 with 278 passing yards and two touchdowns. I think there will be some growing pains during the course of his rookie campaign, but I don’t think it will be too severe this week against the Bears. The Bears secondary is currently a mess, so Wentz should be able to hit value at the very least.

Other Notables

Running Back

Spencer Ware (KC): $6,800 at HOU
Despite being down by multiple scores after the first half, Ware was able to come through in a big way in Week 1. Ware had 70 rushing yards on 11 carries and seven receptions for 129 yards with a touchdown. Despite playing the same exact number of snaps as Charcandrick West (34 offensive snaps), Ware had twice as many touches. Ware does have a much tougher matchup this week against the Texans. However, he proved that he will be the focus of the Chiefs’ running game as long as Charles remains sidelined.

Rashad Jennings (NYG): $6,300 vs. NO
Jennings is probably a value option better suited for GPP contests than cash games since many DFS players will likely be focusing on the receiving options of the Giants and ignoring Jennings. I don’t think the Saints will be able to score as easily on the road against the Giants as they did at home against the Raiders in Week 1. Therefore, the game flow should be favorable for Jennings and he should be able to do some damage against this poor Saints’ defense.

Other Notables

Wide Receiver

Michael Crabtree (OAK): $6,200 vs. ATL
Crabtree had a decent game in Week 1 with seven receptions and 87 yards. Although this matchup is not nearly as juicy as the one against the Saints in Week 1, it’s still a pretty favorable matchup for Crabtree and the Raiders. Right now Vegas is projecting that this game is going to be close, which means the Raiders will likely still need to pass the ball late to win.

Tajae Sharpe (TEN): $6,000 at DET
It appears that Sharpe will be the primary receiving option for the Titans in 2016. Sharpe was on the field for 96% of the Titans’ offensive snaps in Week 1 and the next highest receiver was Harry Douglas at only 55%. Sharpe and the Titans have a decent matchup in Week 2 against the Lions, who have an average passing defense at best.

Sterling Shepard (NO): $6,200 vs. NO
I will likely be locking Odell Beckham Jr. into my cash game lineup this week. However, in my GPP lineups I may look to use Shepard since his ownership will likely be way less than Beckham’s. Shepard was on the field for the Giants for all but three snaps in Week 1. Shepard and the Giants have a dream matchup against the Saints in Week 2, and you should have a piece of the Giants in every lineup you enter this weekend.

Other Notables

Tight End

Jesse James (PIT): $4,500 vs. CIN
James was on the field for every single offensive snap for the Steelers in Week 1 and was able to haul in five of his seven targets. He probably does not have a ton of upside for GPPs in any particular matchup, but he may be a safe cash option at this salary if he continues to be the safety valve to Ben Roethlisberger.

Other Notables

Kicker

Sebastian Janikowski (OAK): $4,600 vs. ATL
Janikowski kicked three field goals in Week 1, and he should be in good shape again this week. I typically like to use kickers that are kicking at home, have a healthy game total and are projected to be close games. Janikowski checks all three of those boxes, so he definitely should be a solid option in Week 2.

Other Notables

D/ST

New England Patriots: $4,500 vs. MIA
The Patriots did not score many FanDuel points in Week 1. However, they did impress me by only allowing 20 points to one of the more potent offenses in the league. I don’t believe the Patriots will have too much trouble limiting the points allowed in Week 2 against the Dolphins, and they should be in better shape to force some turnovers in this game.

Other Notables

  • Packers (GB): $4,400 at MIN
