Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 2

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 2
Virgil Green

Virgil Green and the Broncos have a great Week 2 matchup

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are owned in fewer than 50% of leagues and could be worth starting for your fantasy team.

All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues and all references to fantasy points allowed per game come from our fantasy points allowed (PA) reports here on Fantasy Pros. All references to DVOA (Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average) come from rankings on www.footballoutsiders.com. A detailed explanation of DVOA can be found here.

Quarterback

Brock Osweiler (HOU): 28% owned
@ Kansas City Chiefs

Taking on the Chiefs is no easy task, but Osweiler was solid in his first start with his new team. He finished Week 1 with two touchdown passes, but he very easily could have finished with four had DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller not dropped would-be scores. With Fuller looking like the real deal alongside a proven star such as Hopkins and Lamar Miller keeping pass defenses honest, Osweiler could have a big season.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (NYJ): 42% owned
@ Buffalo Bills

Fitzpatrick continues to go overlooked in fantasy leagues, even though he’s a virtual lock for around 250 yards and two touchdowns every week. With established weapons in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, plus Matt Forte added to the mix, Fitzpatrick has a multitude of weapons to target in the passing game. The Bill were league-average last year in pass defense. Just keep in mind this is the Thursday night game, so get those claims on Fitzmagic in early.

Tight End

Virgil Green (DEN): 27% owned
@ Indianapolis Colts

Green appears to have a solid role carved out in Denver’s passing offense, seeing five targets in Week 1 including an end zone target that he was so close to pulling down. He gets a favorable matchup against a Colts pass defense that was ranked just 20th in the league in DVOA in 2015. That same Colts defense just allowed Eric Ebron to catch five passes for 46 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

Clive Walford (OAK): 19% owned
vs. Atlanta Falcons

Walford saw five targets in Week 1, catching three of those for 25 yards. Not especially inspiring numbers, but the 6’4″ tight end should emerge as one of Oakland’s top red zone targets this season. We saw what the Oakland passing game can do when it is clicking with Derek Carr passing for 319 yards and one touchdown in Week 1. Three of Oakland’s four touchdowns came on the ground, but expect that number to even out a bit as we go forward. The Falcons were the fifth-most generous defense against tight ends in 2015.
