Okay, that headline may have taken it a bit too far, but Mike Evans is definitely making a case to be considered one of the top five fantasy wide receivers. Through three weeks, Evans has 21 receptions for 301 yards, three touchdowns and has been targetted a whopping 38 times. His three touchdown catches have already matched his season total from last year — he didn’t catch his third TD until Week 11 of 2015. His 38 targets are more than last year’s No. 1 fantasy wide receiver (Antonio Brown) had through three games in 2015.

The only knock on Evans in the past has been his drops, but so far this year it has not been a problem with only one drop credited to him. Even if his “dropsies” show up later in the season, he already has the trust of Jameis Winston, so don’t expect his targets to suffer from a drop or two.
Looking ahead at Evans’ schedule he has a couple tough matchups over the next two weeks with the Broncos coming to Tampa next week and then they travel to Carolina to face the Panthers. After their Week 6 bye things start looking up with the 49ers, Raiders, Falcons, and Bears on the schedule in consecutive games — all of them look to be great matchups on paper.
If you really want to look ahead here is the best part. During the fantasy playoffs (Weeks 13-to-16) he gets to play the worst defense in the NFL, the Saints… twice! It doesn’t get much better than that. If you are lucky enough to own Evans, sit back and enjoy the ride, he is just getting started.
